Appetite poor. With encouragement, she managed to eat over 2 Tbsp FF for breakfast. First breakfast - Wellness - was soundly rejected by all, so I opened up the FF.

She was already up when I got up for her +9 snack, so I just put food in front of her. Not sure how much she ate, but she was nibbling on it when I went back to bed.

She's in the bathroom steaming right now. Not happy about it, but I figured it was worth trying. BTW, it's a lot less warm AND humid near the floor... I mean, heat rises and all, but it also seems less humid near the floor. So, I'm not sure if she's getting as much benefit as I'd hope, but at least some.

Got to get going. Have to get to work and call the vet before 8 to try for an appointment today.

Re: 7/9 Kasha AMPS 125

Hi Krys,

Her AMPS is good. I hope you can get her in as soon as possible with your schedule. It sounds like you have a good working relationship with your Vet. If it doesn't seem to be getting better, what about a second opinion. Will she be having some bloodwork? Keep us posted and good luck. I guess it's about 7:30 am there - 4:30 am here! No rest for the weary here - Mags started talking 12:30 pm!

Re: 7/9 Kasha AMPS 125

None of my kitties were ever thrilled when I "steamed" them. They were happier if I was in the bathroom, too - but that didn't always happen. I hope it works for Kasha and it helps her nose feel better.

Re: 7/9 Kasha AMPS 125

Poor Kasha!! Hope th Steam will help her , but great AMPS!!! Call vet & see what he recommends--Healing vines to Kasha!

Re: 7/9 Kasha AMPS 125

We've got a 1:40 PM appointment for the vet. Only a few sneezes this morning - several when I put her in the steaming bathroom with the shower running. I came back and sat in there with her for about 10 min... then I left her in there after turning the water off for another 10 min or so.

She seems a little out of sorts today, but that could just be me (cuz I'm REALLY out of sorts today).

Blue started crying today and I panicked a little (common theme). I realized I couldn't find him... turns out he got locked in the spare room - at least he was smart enough to call for help... although I would have done a head count before leaving the house anyway.

Ok - I have a 3 HOUR meeting starting in 5 minutes... Seriously - words don't describe the excitement.

Re: 7/9 Kasha AMPS 125

Sending good vettie bean vines to Ms. Kasha! Nice amps today!
Glad Blue was able to get freed from the spare bedroom. My civvie Ralph sometimes gets closed in his grammiebeans closet and he will just lay there and sleep until he is missed. He's a silly boy :-D

Re: 7/9 Kasha AMPS 125 Vet Update

URI - sinus infection. Possible dental infection, but A/B should help both - prescribed Cefa drops, once a day for 10 days.

She got to see her vet techs. One of them will probably be assisting her dental surgery and has promised that once Kasha is out, she is going to kiss her and take photos to prove it (Kasha won't let her NEAR her since the pet sitting time).

More later - I'm hungry.

Re: 7/9 Kasha AMPS 125 Vet Update

That's good that you got stuff to help her feel better...
And not one word about your exciting meetings....do you want to talk about it? LMHO

Feel better soon sweet kitty cat_pet_icon

Re: 7/9 Kasha AMPS 125 Vet Update

Glad you have a diagnosis. It has to be a relief for you. Those tooth infections can really affect their appetite.
Take care. I'd say you deserve some good takeout food tonight.

Re: 7/9 Kasha AMPS 125 Vet Update Cefa drops advice?

Well, I don't know what I was thinking... but Cefa drops contain sucrose. The vet office is already closed for the day, so I'm thinking I'll give her a dose tonight and monitor to see how it affects her BG... Wondering if I should give it at the same time as dinner or later in her cycle, with LC to counter the sucrose a little. I couldn't find info on how much sucrose is in it. If it works out to be like feeding her one serving of MC a day, I'm not so worried. But if it really bounces her up... well - that's an issue.

I'm always nervous about the first dose of a new prescription.

Re: 7/9 Kasha AMPS 125 Vet Update Cefa drops advice?

I always like to encourage people to cross-post health issues and medicines to the Health forum.
Hopefully maybe Jess(&Earl) will see it and offer some feedback for you.

I've never heard of it, but do a post in health ok? Couldn't hurt to get more eyes on this one.

Hope you guys have a smooth cycle tonight.

Re: 7/9 Kasha AMPS 125 Vet Update Cefa drops advice?

I would definitely dose the Cefa drops early in the cycle when the Lantus is doing it's most work. I also like your idea about giving it at meal time so it's essentially a drop in the bucket.

I've had a rather heated conversation with one of the vets at the practice I use over her prescribing a med that had powered sugar in it. Her rationale was that sugar wasn't the primary ingredient, there was "only a little," and I test so I would know if the sugar was raising Gabby's BG. I asked her if she'd like me to give a diabetic child a tablespoon or two of ice cream twice a day. I hope the sugar is really minimal and doesn't effect Kasha's levels.

Re: 7/9 Kasha AMPS 125 PMPS 161 Cefa drops advice?

I posted out on Health too... since I've heard nothing, I just fed and shot as usual. I'm going to wait to make sure that meal is on board before administering the cefa drops since I read that it makes some cats vomit... Maybe I'll try it at +2..

She ate nearly 2 Tbsp of FF and Wellness for dinner. Not because she wanted to eat, but because I bugged her until she did...

Oh yes -and the meetings weren't too bad. Mostly cuz I split my time between listening and IMing friends, new friends and associates... LOL... 4 hours of these meetings/training per day next week. I can't wait (not).

I just saw Sienne's post. Ok - I'm going to give it a bit later today just to see if she is tolerant of it (vomiting, etc.). If so, I'll move it to dinner time. It's a once a day dose.

Re: 7/9 Kasha AMPS 125 PMPS 161 Cefa drops advice?

I did some research on cefa drops and they did recommend giving it with food to reduce any nausea that may occur. It also said this:
Tip: Cefa-Drops contain sucrose which may affect the treatment of diabetic pets.
So I guess, like you said, you're going to have to watch Kasha's bg's.

Re: 7/9 Kasha AMPS 125 PMPS 161 Cefa drops advice?

My vet tech said the vet usually underdoses the Cefa drops by a bit to avoid unpleasant side effects like nausea and vomiting. She said the dose is still very effective, just less likely to cause issues. It's been an hour, I might just try some now to see how she does. She was just up and nibbling at some food...

Dose one down. Hopefully she'll lick the rest off of her  Not so easy to get into her... But it obviously doesn't taste very bad to her. I'm going to check her BG... 142, a few minutes after the drops.

Now I'm going to listen for the vomiting...

Re: 7/9 Kasha AMPS 125 PMPS 161 Cefa drops advice?

Well, the good news so far is that it's been about 45 min since I gave the Cefa drops and 1). they are still in her and 2) Her BG, which I measured shortly after giving the drops at 142, is now measuring 135... so it doesn't look like any appreciable rise so far.

Now I'm going to sit here and stare at her for another couple of hours to see how she's reacting...

The vet suggested dripping saline or something in her nostrils... I mix up my own saline for myself in my neti pot and she said I could use the same on Kasha. I also have some colloidal silver drops (supposed to be natural antibiotic) which couldn't hurt either. I've had decent luck using the silver topically... I know people who use it to gargle for sore throats too. Anyway - I'm going to try to drop something in her nose - that should be lots of fun...

Vet also recommended Sienne's suggestion for keeping her in the bathroom when I shower to steam her a bit.

She just sneezed for the first time in hours...

Vet also said I should cut back on the antihistamine as it may have dried her out too much - but if she is really congested, I can give her one dose a day at bedtime.

Re: 7/9 Kasha AMPS 125 PMPS 161 Cefa drops advice?

we use nebulizers at work for this sort of infection wondering if your vet has ever thought of using this? I have one at home now and its just the perfect thing for a clogged up kitty with UR. Anyway sending get well vines for Kasha and hope the meds do not affect her numbers too much I know we have it where I work but I am not familiar with how it could affect numbers

Re: 7/9 Kasha AMPS 125 PMPS 161, 74 @ +3 Cefa drops

Well, with a 74 @ +3 (and I checked twice to be sure!), I'm not feeling too worried about the effect on her BG right now!

I didn't see a spike tonight from the drops... and no vomiting thus far. Now, tomorrow is another day... It seems like some nights (or days) she's bound and determined to drop no matter what... tonight could be one of them. Tomorrow I'll give the drops with her dinner.

It's funny - every time I measure this dose I think, there is such a small amount of light about that zero line... How can this work? But something is obviously doing something.

this looks promising, maybe the drops won't affect her numbers too much. Once she's feeling 100%, the numbers may go down too.

Hey Krys!
Glad to hear you got this figured out. Hope Kasha stays well on the drops and doesn't get nauseated! Paws crossed. Looks like her numbers are AMAZING!
