Happy Sunday everyone,

Ducia spent last 6 cycles bouncing shamelessly that's why I haven't been posting. Her dose went up this AM to Skinny 1U. Reason: full one unit dose sends too low too fast. 3 times under 50 in less than 2 weeks 6/9 - 6/17. I thought I'd give the skinny dose a chance this time.

This morning I weighted Ducia and she hit 9.5lb - her absolute maximum per IM vet. I hope this number is not accurate because although it was over 3 hours after her meal she didn't go to the LB and she drinks a lot IMHO. I'd rather she stick closer to 9.00lb.

Bad news: I used to sniff:rolleyes: Ducia's injection site each time insulin is given and for he past couple of cycles it did not smell at all. It is possible that there was no insulin on the short 8 mm needle and that's why the smell wasn't transferred to her fur however in the past I could always smell some for a short while after the shot. Does it mean the vile gone bad? :(I am thinking of ordering from Canada but the heat here is high - it was registered 120F/~50C yesterday in California and I know it is better not to order in the extreme heat...

hope everyone had great weekend!

I always thought that if you smelled insulin on the fur, it meant that not all of the shot went in? So I'd say it was a good thing to not smell insulin. If you want to investigate more maybe just squirt out a bit onto a plate and try sniffing that, but I wouldn't worry too much as long as the vial still looks good (clear, no floaty bits)-- I don't think I've heard of a lack of insulin smell as a sign that it is going bad.

Good luck with the dose change!

:oops:why the simplest and most obvious solutions never occur to me?!.. Going to do it right now.

Me too, but the doses we drew for Ducia required letting out a drop or two so some amount of insulin would stay on the needle surface and pass the smell on to the fur for short time. I actually do watch the needle to go in with magnifying jeweler glasses - every time it looks that the entire amount goes in and sometime her good numbers would confirm it.

Thank you Nan, the vile looks good - I am going to smell check it now.:D

Done - sharp, very distinct insulin smell on the plate in addition to the vile looking good. So I hope it has not gone bad. The +2 higher than PS though, but how certain can one be with a bouncy cat who also is disrespectful of common rules?.. (said with sigh of patience and acceptance).
Have a wonderful day Nan, thank you for stopping by to check on us.:bighug:
