Decided to increase insulin to .2u again. Pain may be a factor in these higher numbers, and if that is the case, Spot certainly isn't showing that he is in pain. His appy hasn't decreased AT ALL. The only difference is the fact that he doesn't want to go outside at all. He will occasionally sit by the door and look out, but makes no attempt to do so. He is quite content to stay in the house. Heat may be a factor in this also.

Hope everyone has a wonderful Friday! If I don't stay on the computer to long this morning, I may be able to get a lot of work done!!! BUTTTTTT...need to check out some condos before actually doing so!

I have a feeling that as the toofus heals & ab's work well, numbers will go down--

UGH!!!! WTF is going on here? Maybe he is in a lot more pain then he is letting on...OR this pain meds that the dr. gave him....ketoprofen...it has cherry syrup in it....is making his sugars go high..HOWEVER, she said that there was such a small amount of sugar in it to make any difference....hummmm....beginning to think that maybe she is wrong. I have one more dose to give him tomorrow.

I still have some bupe in the fridge from November. I wonder if it's still good. It says discard after 9/11 but it also says expires 12/09. Any input would be appreciated.

Hi Deb, Sorry I can't answer your question about bupe. Probably the "expiration date" means it is good until that date if unopened. If you opened it, it may or may not still be good. I wouldn't take the chance. Sometimes medicines get "changed" if they sit around after opening. If it were a pill I would use it, but it sounds like it's a liquid.
Hope your weather cools off. Here it is cooler, but much more humid. We're expecting thunderstorms and flash flooding in some areas.

Uh Deb.... I think you have data that the cherry syrup is SYRUP. The sugar is having an effect on Spot's levels and you now have the data to prove it.

Didn't the vet have bupe? There is a decent size literature that is not overly happy about the use of NSAIDS in cats. (This is the same class of drug as metacam and can result in kidney damage and, specifically for ketoprofen, can cause GI problems.)

Cheryl, yes, I do have the proof now. Sometimes I need to "talk" to myself and put it out there before I can see it tho, lol. I have decided that I will not be giving him that stuff anymore. Obviously there is enough of sugar in that syrup to do a job on his BG's. So, no more no more! As far as anything else they could have given him, nope...that pain med is the only thing they carry. Way back in November when I had to give him the Bupe, I had to order it from a pharmacy in WV and it took days to get here. I have some of that in the fridge, but I really don't think that Spot is having pain issues at this point.
So, hopefully no more pain meds will help w/his numbers :-D

For some items... I consider the expiry date as "best before doesn't mean no good after" and I would think that Bupe falls in the same category. The effectiveness may be altered, but I could almost bet that it's not more effective than before.

No more sugar for the Spotmaster....

Came down to blue...good boy Spot!

Mannie and Stu....Spot had a wonderful time hanging out by the pool with you guys and sez that you must do it again. As a matter of fact, he asked me if he could have a pool party on Sunday and invite all his LL friends...so.....pass the word.....Sunday is a pool party at Spot's place!

who makes cherry flavored cat medicine anyway? Weird. I hope Spot's numbers come back down after the medicine is stopped.
