I'm starting to freak out about the direction things are going. Faraday is eating and using the litterbox just fine, not drinking a huge amount, and is acting totally normally, so I can be mildly reassured by that?

Is it possible that my lantus pen is going off? We're using the same one that we started 4/29, and we have about 20/25U left in it. I'd love an "easy" explanation like that as opposed to something more nefarious.
 
Yeah, can totally empathize with the freak out. Do you have another pen?

Take him up to 1.5U tonight. It's possible he just needs to get to a dose that will break through to blues and greens. This happened with another cat where the cat lost regulation after a vacation dose. He got back to blues and greens but the CG had to raise insulin to a dose that would get him back there. And then he came back down the dosing ladder.

I am so impressed with your memory @Bandit's Mom! How in the world do you do it?

I will take him up to 1.5U tonight. I do not have a new pen yet, but hopefully will get one in the next couple of days (probably Monday?). How likely do you think it is that the pen is bad? It hasn't been left out, and we're very good about storing it in the middle of the fridge/not in the door etc.

And are we going back up to 1.5U because it was his last breakthrough dose?

I doubt it is the pen. He dropped to 112 on it.
And sorry, my mistake! I meant 1.25U and not 1.5U tonight. It was either a typo or I thought he was on 1.25U. I don't remember which. LOL
 
I agree with Bhooma. The vacation dose did it’s job and kept him safe so now he needs a gentle reminder of where he needs to be. He will get there.

So I am going to pick up a new pen this afternoon. Should I still use up the rest of the current one?
 
THANK YOU 1.25U! Finally seeing a lower number than PS. I know I could have just missed it with my test schedule, but after the last 3 cycles of higher numbers after shooting insulin, I was feeling really low about all of this. Now if we could just get back to the blues (and greens, please??), that'd be peachy keen!

Using a new insulin pen tonight. Once I feel comfortable with the trend in numbers I'll look into finishing off the old one, but for now, new pen time!
 
Maybe just punishing you for being out of town? Ugh, that's so stressful to see numbers climbing after all those steady greens and blues. I hope you find that the old pen is toast, and the new one gets him back to green.
