There are so many of you I would like to thank that helped us make it to this point. I want to name you all but I'm scared I will accidentally leave someone out and I don't want any hurt feelings. You all know who you are :)
For anyone who gave us advice, motivated me when I was down, gave me the knowledge I needed, put up with me when I didn't understand, stayed up with me thru several PJ parties, taught me how to deal with low numbers, laughed with me thru the chocolate milk episode...WE THANK YOU!!!! My prayer is for all the LL kitties that they will live rich full lives and eventually come OTJ as well. Do not give up hope. This was Peyton's second rodeo with diabetes. The first time we did not know about Lantus or this wonderful LL family. I would like to thank my friend Missy who is a LL member who directed me to this fabulous group. Without her leading me to all of you we wouldn't be celebrating today. I wish I could give each and every one of you a GREAT BIG HUG but it looks like a cyber hug will have to do :YMHUG: :YMHUG: :YMHUG: :YMHUG: :YMHUG: :YMHUG: :YMHUG: :YMHUG: :YMHUG:

THANK YOU ALL FROM THE BOTTOM OF OUR HEARTS!!!!!!!

We will be having another celebration in less than a month when Peyton turns 18 :RAHCAT

aw, what a nice post, julie. you did all the work - so kudos to you for taking the time to learn what you needed to be able to help Peyton, and then doing it. well done! :-D

do you need another copy of the post-trial directions or did you keep that?

Yeah Peyton! Congrats on going OTJ! It seems like such a short time ago that Missy PM'd me asking for me to look in on you on your new post in Feline Health. Then, you graduated to Lantus Land and look at you now! At the Falls!

Fantastic job all around. :RAHCAT :RAHCAT

WhoopWhoop!!! Congratulation Peyton!!!

Thank you Julie, Deb and Deb!
Deb, thank you as well for helping us get to Lantus Land! Vets are always saying "stay off the internet" but I think they may want to get on the internet!!! The knowledge her has been amazing.
Julie, I wrote down key points from the OTJ instructions. I probably do need another copy if you don't mind.
A millions thank you's to you all!!!

Here's one version of those instructions to help keep beautiful Peyton OTJ.

Here are some tips to stay OTJ (off-the-juice, insulin being the juice)

1. Never feed dry - not even treats. If you change wet food types, be 100% sure the new food is also low carb and same low carb % as your current food. Some cats are very carb sensitive and an increase from 3-6% to 8-10% can spike the BG’s. Don’t feed if you aren’t sure!
2. Weigh every 2 weeks to 1 month to watch for weight changes. Too much of a weight gain can cause loss of remission.
3. Measure blood once a week, indefinitely. You want to catch a relapse quickly. Some people only do checks every 2 weeks to a month.
4. No steroids or oral meds with sugar - remind your vet whenever giving you any medication. Always double check.
5. Monitor food intake, peeing and drinking. If increasing, a sign of losing remission.
6. Regular vet checks for infection such as dental , ear or UTI. And get them treated quick!

If your cat does fall out of remission you need to be more aggressive and resolve issues/ back on insulin as soon as possible as the window for a second remission is tight if any. Pancreatitis, hyperthyroid, dental issues are the most common reasons cats fall out of remission.

*sniffle* I'm just so darn happy for you, Julie! LL was a life saver for me and Kitty as well, so every chance I get, I tell everyone about the awesome folks here.

Now go out there and annoy the heck out of your vet by showing him how quickly you were able to get Peyton off the juice just by changing his food and getting him on a better insulin. Maybe then he will see that the prescription food is not the way to help diabetic cats. It would be lovely if vets would tell people about this site once their cat is diagnosed.

Welcome to the falls, Peyton.
