Yesterday's bad air day.
7/6 Recap:
AMPS 129 +5 153 +9 95:D
PMPS 134 +4 165

Neko is once again flaked out in her beloved solarium. The winds here shifted, so the air here is better today. Sorry Angela/Spaz - they are taking the brunt of the smoke now. The air quality is very location specific. It is also cooler so not so miserable with the doors/windows closed in the house.

We are off in short while for a visit to Neko's acupuncture vetty. Won't Neko be thrilled - seems I'm always pulling her out of the solarium for these trips. I'll ask vetty about air quality and diabetics. On the up side, the car has a HEPA filter and A/C.

Sending good acupuncture vines. Neko, the solarium will be there waiting when you get home!

I'm glad the winds shifted away from you, even if it was at someone else's expense. Enjoy that A/C while you can!

Blech - winds have turned again. :( We are back and Neko is downstairs. Vetty said that concern for diabetics is the additional stress on their system. And a concern over dehydration which could cause hypo. In humans, there is concern about pneumonia developing. Not something that has been proven in animals. Or maybe not even studied. Time for me to shutter the solarium.

As I was reading through your condo, I was thinking YAY about the air quality, just to read your latest post. Thank you, Wendy, for sharing the info your vetty provided about the possible effects this smoky air can have on diabetic kitties. You, DH, Neko and Theo stay safe, this is so not good. And the thought of some of your beautiful B.C. forests in flames is so sad :(. Take care.

The timing of Neko's vetty visit was perfect- I figured it was something like that regarding the warning for diabetics with poor air quality. It only makes sense that if it's bad for humans, it can't be good for pets either, just a pity it hasn't been studied... Egads on that wind change, but at least the temps are slightly cooler!

That's a nice +9 for Miss Neko, the accupressure seems to agree with her!

p.s. DH is letting you drive the new car yet? (with Hepa filter?) very nice!

We had a good acupuncture treatment session today. Neko was pretty alert and engaged, though in no mood to hang around and relax with a needle in her. But that's typical. Vetty and I got discussing acromegaly again. She had been thinking about the statement I made that one in four diabetics have acromegaly and wondering why it wasn't more well known and why research isn't further along (as well as treatments). All good questions! I've sent her some more recent articles. They only have 6 diabetic cats in their practice, but they promote low carb food, including raw from a young age.

Tricia, Carla, Lori, Liz, Ruth - Due to the ocean effect, our wind will often switch directions in the evening, then back again in the day. This makes for relatively clearer air overnight (so we can open windows to cool the house), but smoke back during the day. At least with it cooler, it's tolerable in the solarium for the kitties with everything closed up. Paws crossed the wind will change again tonight. Neko was wise this afternoon and spent some time in the cool downstairs, rubbing up with her friend Mr. AC Tires. :joyful:
@Tiger and Ruth - My 10 year old car is the one with A/C and HEPA filter - and it just got changed a couple weeks ago. Good timing! I did drive DH's car this weekend.

Glad the acupuncture visit went well for Neko. Well done on keeping the vet up to date with some articles on acromegaly, we need more research/treatment.
Hope the forest fires are soon under control and your air quality improves.

Hi Wendy :coffee::coffee::coffee:

It is nice to see Neko in the blues. I hope the air quality there isn't bothering Neko too much. Excellent on the acupuncture session.

I too hope that the fires there are closer to containment. We have seen photos etc here of the smoke that covers Vancouver etc. We are actually getting some if it here, enough that we have that constant haze that the sun doesn't penetrate. I hope you guys re doing OK.

Have a great day. I hope all goes well.
