Crazy day today, went for a nature walk, then tons of errands. In Calgary, we need to take advantage of nice days, so try to get out...have two mountain hikes Fri & Sat. Lulu dipped into the lagoon last night! She is getting really feisty when I test her ears now, growling the whole time. She wouldn`t scratch or bite me, just likes to let me know in no uncertain terms that this is no fun. I must have hurt her sometime when I poked, poor girl.

@tiffmaxee - I picked up Otis's lab results and transcribed everything onto an Excel spreadsheet, I'll attach it here. Thanks you for being interested in seeing them, to my untrained eye, everything looks fairly good except ALP and GGT. Blood in the urine, but they took a sterile sample through his lower abdomen into his bladder, and I would suspect the blood might have been from that. In any event, the vet did not mention it as problematic.

Prayers and vines to those in need.

I'm sorry you've been having trouble getting blood from Lulu's ear. That happens with Furball every now and then. It's a good thing our kitties are so forgiving. I hope it's nothing serious with Otis. :bighug:

The sample was lipemic and there was hemolysis. That effects results. Since the ALP a little low I wouldn't be concerned and the GGT was not severely elevated. Since your cat is acting fine I would not be concerned if ,I've and might at a future time retest mentioning that it wasn't a good sample and therefore should be no charge. If all appears normal I would ignore it. I have some onfo on how it effects results. If I can find it I will send it to you.

Thanks a bunch Elise!!:bighug: I have the cell number of the owner of the vet clinic, I think I mentioned she's on mat leave right now, so I don't want to intrude when she's got a brand new baby. I have Otis scheduled for a retest on Aug 4, and will raise my concerns at that time.

Thanks, Julie (the very first person who sat up most of the night with me when Lulu was heading very low). I'll never forget it, I had no clue what I was doing and you stuck by me, coaching me through it.

aw, you're welcome. I remember that - I think I had to work the next day, too! LOL. Others did it for me, too. It's scary the first time round, isn't it?! Then when you learn that you can bring them up with carbs, it becomes routine. You'd never imagine it'd be routine later with that first time, though.

I'm glad Lulu is doing so well!

This site is so special -- so much help for the newbie from the experienced. And such generosity to stay up half the night when you had to go to work the next day.:bighug:I hope to be able to pay it forward some day.

Lori, I can't find the article that listed how hemolysis and lipemic effect individual tests but found a Cornell listing that it does increase GGT and your test did have +++ which is high. Did Otis eat prior to the labs? Max had lipemic labs once because he ate too soon to the test. They suggest a 12 hour fast to avoid this. I would not worry about these labs at all.

Thanks for checking Elise. Otis did eat before the test, I had the first appointment after the clinic opened, and he had had breakfast before we left. Thank you for the info. I was really upset right after I heard about these results, but much better now.
Just took Lulu`s before bedtime BG and it looks like she got a fur shot :banghead: She sure is getting cranky about the tests, hissing and growling and digging her claws into the carpet. She would never bite or scratch me, but she`s not a happy kitty about getting her ears poked, even with a treat and lots of scritches and loving.

Hey Lulu - time to ditch the bounce and get back to green! Lori, if you smelled or felt Lantus and think she got a fur shot, could you put something like FS or furshot in the units column of the SS? That was we know at a glance what happened.

Bummer that she's getting tired of the tests. What size lancets are you using? Now that you've been at this for a while, you could probably switch to 30 or 31 gauge if you haven't done so already. Are you putting the Polysporin Complete on after or before the poke?

Good to hear that Otis's lab results are a lot better than you feared.
