7/7 Ann & Maggie AMPS 106; +6 125; +9 97; PMPS 104 Question

Well, Maggie surprised me this morning. She had her usual routine of talking constantly to get me out of bed (3:30 am), :YMSIGH: but this time when I went to make the coffee, she wasn't following me. She curled up and went back to sleep in my bed! And after yelling at me to get up! I'm pleased with her AMPS this morning, as as last night I left out some Sophisticat Seafood Dinner and about 7-8 kibbles of dry Purina DM. She ate everything, and it didn't seem to affect her AMPS unless it will show up next bg.

oh my civies likes to get me out of bed so he can sleep in my leftover warmth! Maggie is smart!

Great amps today wish I could let Do Lou have a kibble now and then but it really makes his numbers soar :smile:

Hi,
The first time I took Maggie's bg, I had a large drop of blood but thought I just got a small amount on the strip. It read 67, which scared me with using the Alpha Trak Meter. I did the other ear the second prick, and it read 109. Poor Maggie's ears; I wanted to make sure this bg was correct, so I took a third bg, and it was 104. So the question is does a large blood drop give an incorrect reading? I vaguely remember reading this or maybe it was me asking this question some time ago??

:lol: It was funny! Well, let's see if there's anything to it - maybe just a meter glitch. The last two bg's read about the same, so I'll take it! I rewarded Maggie with two treats of Gerber bf for putting up with me

that sounds familiar. Only cuz I did the same thing too.
Then I had this crazy notion that the lighter the blood drop is in colour, the better the bg will be!
I think I might of been "test-happy" thou. :lol:

Thanks Ronnie and Luna. I will be taking a trip to visit family the end of next week, and I hope she doesn't get too stressed with missing me. I know I will be stressed worrying about how she's faring.
 
A few yrs. ago someone on the boards here claimed that when her cat's ears were cold, she got a lower BG & warm ears, higher BG--
Sometimes it works, sometimes not--
Moonie's blood from the right side of her ear is lighter than the left, & bg higher(or so I thought)

Funny - I had a similar experience too. I tested Kasha 3 times tonight for her PMPS because the first reading was oddly low - but the other 2 were around 160, so that's the one I stuck with.

And I also believe the lighter the drop, the better the reading - I'm always afraid that somehow more fluid has mixed in with the blood and it's diluted so the reading will be better. Now, I'm not saying there is any basis to this, and repeated testing at the expense of Kasha's ears has not proven this to be true, but I don't always have the most rational explanation for all of my beliefs!

However, I often feel like I get LOWER BGs from warmer ears too - LOL...

Maggie IS doing great. She will miss you when you're gone, Ann... but you'll both get through it and she'll be sooo happy to see you when you get back!
 
Thanks Roni and Moonie. Interesting to hear these theories. confused_cat I think I'd better place some Neosporin on Maggie's ears. The one side really bleeds. Have a good night.

from time to time, i've had goofy readings when the blood drop has been too big or when it's been too small.
