Jibbit is staying in the 400s right now, it appears. Based on advice given yesterday, I dropped his AM dose to 2.0u.

Sunny is back in her "comfortable" 300s. Also based on advice given yesterday, I dropped her AM dose to 0.5u. We'll see if she's bouncing or if she's just really determined to stay in the 300s! Silly kitty.

More than likely we'll need to increase down the road but let's give them until next friday to see how they settle at these doses as a starting point.

Thanks, Mel!

I actually am going on vacation starting late Friday until the following Sunday week (7/11-7/20). Unfortunately, my friend who also has a diabetic cat won't be available to take care of them. I have a professional cat sitter coming, but she's never done anything for FD cats. She's willing to give insulin but not to learn how to test BG. Given Jibbit's wild number swings in particular, I don't know how safe it is for her to shoot them without testing them. Any advice greatly appreciated!

How I didn't kill these poor cats myself while I was shooting blind is a true miracle. :?

Have you spoken to Carolyn Sturgill or your vet's office about whether they know a professional pet sitter in your area experienced with testing/shooting diabetic cats?

I know you will be checking with the pet sitter while you are gone, but could you also email me her name/number so that I can check on J&S. Also, please give her my contact info in case one needs to go to the vet.

I hope you have a great time on vacation.

Thanks, Venita. I'll ask Carolyn again, but I don't think she knows anyone. The vet's office gave me one person who actually doesn't do cats, and that was the only pet sitter they knew of. The woman I'm using is someone a former coworker uses - she treats her dogs as much like family as I treat my cats, so I know anyone she uses will be great! Even if she doesn't know how to do BG tests, etc.

What is the advice on having her shoot or not shoot?
