Hi,

Today has been a bad day in Zeusland. He has been laying in weird places, like between my bed and the wall about 12 inches of space),or under my bed (which he never does). He ate well this morning, and had a midday snack, but he didn't clean his face afterwards... Poor little guy had some of the gravy dried in his fur, and a piece of meat stuck to his nose. I cleaned his face a couple of times, poor guy. When I picked him up, he was just sort of limp, he didn't try to get up himself like he used to. And I don't know if it was because i had the wet cloth in my hand, or wet hands, but his bottom area felt a bit wet too, we had that issue a few days ago... I don't think it was pee. When he walks, he looks stiff. And now tonight he won't eat at all. I've tried 4 flavors so far. With him being so high already I hate to skip, but if he won't eat I don't know if I should shoot. Ugh, my heart is breaking for my little Zeusman.

Re: 7/6 Zeus PMPS 376 won't eat, what about his shot?

I really think you need to get some insulin in him. Even if you need to give him some HC to get him started, it's important that he eat.

Do you have pain meds for him? If this is a pancreatitis flare, he may be in a lot of discomfort and/or pain.

Re: 7/6 Zeus PMPS 376 won't eat, what about his shot?

I just gave him some gravy lovers... He had a few licks but is not overly interested. I did give him the ondansetron and the Cypro an hour and a half ago. I do have the bupe, do you think I should shoot and give him the bupe?

Re: 7/6 Zeus PMPS 376 won't eat, what about his shot?

Kathie I'm so sorry Zeus is having a bad day. I don't know about the shot, but I hope you can get him to eat something. Sending prayers to you and Zeus.

Re: 7/6 Zeus PMPS 376 won't eat, what about his shot?

Sorry Zeusman isn't feeling good. Sending feel better vines to you and Zeus♥

Re: 7/6 Zeus PMPS 376 won't eat, what about his shot?

I'm going to take him to the ER vet, this just isn't right. I picked him up and he kind of jerked a bit, and he wanted to get down, and he took a few steps and kind of fell over.

Many healing vines being sent to Zeus! Hoping for a good vetty visit.

Sending strong feel better and healing vines to Zeus. Going to the ER sounds like a smart idea.

We are back from the ER Vet.... I did NOT like this Vet at all. She told me that I was not giving the correct dose of insulin for his weight. She asked me several times about the Leukeran because she'd "never heard of it" and said that I needed to further investigate (surgery) whether Zeus has IBD or Lymphoma, and that I should start prednisone. She said she didn't know why they wouldn't have put him on that to begin with, and then I reminded her that it wasn't good for FD.

And then she told me that I needed to draw a line in the sand and decide whether I wanted to put Zeus through much more. I tried so hard not to, but my eyes filled with tears.

She then examined him a bit, heart was racing but did not hear the heart murmur (half of the Vets that we've seen have been able to hear it, the others haven't... can it come and go?), temp was a little low, and he was a little dehydrated. She gave Zeus a shot of pepcid, and the tech gave him fluids, and they sent us home... but not before telling me again that I needed to draw a line in the sand and decide how much more I could put Zeus through, and that if he isn't eating he is telling me that he's ready to go and that I need to think about his quality of life. Tears again then, and crying now. How can she think that I haven't been thinking about that? I've been doing everything that I can for him, to make him feel better. As mad as I was, I will admit that I did ask Zeus if he's had enough, and if so to hit me over the head with a sign (something other than not wanting to eat). Is this it?

I don't know what to do. He has been coming for attention, until today. His appy had been improving, even this morning, he had almost 2 cans of friskies in the morning, and another half can in the early afternoon. I syringe fed some BF when we got home, he really didn't want it though. Maybe that is the only way he can tell me? Maybe it's the laying on the floor and not jumping up on the furniture. But I keep thinking that the Leukeran will be kicking in soon and hopefully that will make a difference. He is still a young guy, he should have many more happy years to come. I want to make the best decision for Zeus. I will talk to his Vet on Monday and see what he thinks... unless Zeus tells me otherwise.

Thanks so much for your kindness and your support, it is greatly appreciated. If you wouldn't mind sending a few more vines in Zeus' direction, and keep him in your prayers that would be great. thanks again,
Kathie

Feel better vines and prayers for Zeus. And some clarity for you, Kathie. Hope you wake up to a better feeling kitty, and no decisions have to be made!

Sending healing vines and prayers for Zeus

Yes, Zeus will tell you when he's had enough, but pretty much every animal I've ever had to PTS, they told me very clearly they'd had enough. I could see it in their eyes and feel it in my heart. If you're still unsure, he may not be ready to stop fighting

Will hope and pray you wake up to a happy Zeus

Kathie, I am so so sorry for the way that vet talked to you. I know this must be so hard for you right now. *HUGS* You and Zeus are in my prayers. I really hope Zeus starts feeling better VERY soon.

Kathie,
So sorry Zeus is not feeling good....
Sending tons and tons of vines and prayers.

I don't like that vet either. Sending tons of vines for Zeus and for you. I hope the fluids help him feel better. (((((Kathie)))))

Hi Kathie - I am so so sorry... I do not like that vet either. What an uncaring unfeeling jerk. I am sending as many vines as I can muster. will hope that the fluids will help him. Hold your baby close. tell him you love him. There will be comfort there for him. Hugs to you. Tons of vines for Zeus.

(((Kathie))) I'm so sorry you had to go through that at the ER vet. I can't believe she hadn't heard of Leukeran before. It's a very common cancer drug and I'd heard of it before FDMB and not from personal experience. Sounds like you just got a lemon today. Good plan to contact your regular vet.

To answer the question about heart murmurs, my Buster (GA) had a heart murmur that came and went. Vetty told me that does happen.

I'm loading up the truckload of vines to send some more to Zeus. Hope you get them soon.

Talk to your normal vet. One asshats opinion counts for nothing. My vet said count the good days against the bad. Today was just a bad day and it sounds like you have had quite a few good recently.

Also though haven't seen any greens for a while, time to change dose? (Don't know his history so bear that in mind)

Oh Kathie! That vet was a total jerk to you. Shasta hopes he/she gets pooped on. ;-) You are doing such a good job of taking care of Zeus. Hugs and scritches to you both. Shasta and I are sending lots of healing vines and appy vines and stable walking vines to Zeus. ((hugs))

Kathie I'm so sorry you had to deal with that jerk at the ER. You're doing your best for Zeus and he knows and loves you for it. Sending prayers for you and Zeus.

I don't like that vet, either (I'm being polite here, since this is a family site). I am so sorry you went through that. And yes, it is disturbing that an ER vet has never heard of Leukeran...that drug has been around for eons. So, I would certainly not take any other info she supplied you as anything worthwhile. Still sending you tons of prayers....I hope today is a bazillion times better for you and Zeus.

(((((((Kathie)))))))
Boo on that ER vet.
We are sending the strongest vines and prayers for Zeus. I hope that yesterday was just one bad day that culminated in that encounter with an unfeeling vet. Zeus will have a better day today. He loves you and he knows how much you want him to feel better.
Thinking positively about your appointment with Zeus's regular vet tomorrow.

Many hugs to you and scritches for Zeus,

Ella & Rusty
