Susie started the morning with a nice AMPS. Unfortunately, I might have to manipulate her glucose levels a little this morning as I have to take a long, long nap. I think I got 3 solid hours of sleep. It was like a war zone in my area last night (literally). Sounded like bombs going off, gunfire and of course the fireworks. Maybe the worst since I have lived here. On top of that my little fan died at 3:00 am and I need the noise to sleep. :banghead:

Anyway, hope everyone else had a much better night. I'm going to stop complaining now :D

Soo sorry Summer. War zone here also:mad::mad: Susie number are great considering:cool::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:
I don't think Susie was too upset but I really didn't see her much. I was too busy with my dog. I was able to get a few test in last night and she seemed fine. She is a pretty laid back kitty. :cat: I'm sorry you had to deal with the noise too. Looks like your girl gets really stressed out. Hope we have heard the end of them but I'm not holding my breath. I usually continue to hear them after the 4th.

Morning Summer, Nice numbers today, I hope you can take a long long nap today.
Me and Ashley had to leave for about an hour because of those dam bombs going off. I hate the 4th!
Complain all you want. ♥:bighug::bighug::bighug:
I'm so sorry you had to leave the comfort of your own home. That is a crime. I haven't seen a recent post from you but the last one I saw said Tyler was doing much better. I am so happy for you, Diane! :woot:

Nice numbers today Summer. I hope you can get some rest.
Hi Adrienne. Did you get safely home from your trip? Did they get that fire contained? I see Molly is in some good numbers - especially last night. Hope you will be able to attach a couple of pictures on your thread. I haven't looked at everybody's today. Tried to nap but it was useless without my little fan. It is crazy how some people need the noise from a fan to fall asleep. I found one this afternoon in one of my Mom's rooms so I'll be okay tonight.

Hi Summer,
We got home yesterday and the fire is still burning where we were camping. They closed the road that leads up to a park and waterfalls. We are hoping that when we go back the end of this month. We'll be able to see our favorite falls.
I did post a couple pictures on my thread today. One of the waterfalls we were able to get too. One with Molly in her crate.

I think a lot of people sleep better with “white noise.” They also sell little things that make noises like ocean waves, running water (like a brook), birdsong, etc. these can provide some relaxing white noise. I hope tonight will be peaceful for you.

You know I actually have one of those little things, Suzanne. I had forgotten about it but it is in a drawer It has the ocean waves, waterfalls, birds singing and the white noise. I bought it specifically for the fire works and then done gone and forgot about it. Duh  Hope you are doing okay and that you didn't have to deal with any fireworks. Do you still have the young kittens?

Hope you got some snoozes! Now I looked at your SS, do you normally not feed her so soon after AM shot and you are manipulating her gl levels by giving a tiny bit of food early in her cycle?

I hope the fireworks are over. I hope you can sleep tonight. Nice surfing today.
Thank you! I hope the fireworks are over too. They were really hard on my 90-year-old Mom. I don't think she got much sleep last night and then one of my dogs "went" on her bed and she was up at 3:00 am moving to the couch. Poor dogs. Poor Mom. I will say it again - I hate the 4th of July.

Yes, normally I would not have fed at +1 but that is what I did today. On a normal day, which usually starts with a yellow AMPS, I would only feed at AMPS (1.5 oz) , +3 (.75 oz) and +5/+6 (.75 oz). That is her allotment for the morning cycle. One whole can of Fancy Feast. If I am worried that she might drop too much, between AMPS and +2, I will give a teaspoon of low carb to try and soften the drop at +1. Because I had a 196 this morning I was anticipating (wrongly) a big drop so I fed her 1 teaspoon of low carb at +1. Because she didn't have a big drop at +2, I didn't feed her anything then but I want her to have at least 3/4 of her am cycle food (1 3oz can of Fancy Feast) by +3 so I feed her that at +3. Then, I waited until +6.5 to feed the rest of her am cycle food because I had laid down to rest. It truly varies, Joey. On mornings that she is going low she will always get a little more food because I am supplementing with medium carb or high carb depending on her number. It is so difficult to know if I should give her a little food at +1 because I don't know what she is going to do at +2. I hope this helps and doesn't confuse you.

Looks like Templeton took a long time to clear that bounce from 7/1 but he had a really nice AMPS this morning and that 154 was great at +2. Maybe this is the beginning of some better numbers for you, Joey. Every cat is different and you will learn what works for your boy. The most important thing I have learned from this site is the importance of testing, when kitty looks like he/she might go low, and to always be more careful with their safety than to take any risks. Have your medium and high carb food available for when you may need them. If you can't be around to test and monitor leave food. He may go up into numbers you don't like but at least you know he is safe and you can always bring him safely back down again.

Very helpful thorough explanation, thank you. It is not confusing and makes sense, I'm trying to absorb everything I can. I've tracked his calories for months, but did not know the importance of timing and amounts and carb percentages. If you weren't going to be home, what would you feed her at +1 if her AMPS is in the blue range?

Yeah, I'm stoked right now. I will take that advice to heart, testing is important. Hypo can kill faster than the cascade of problems long term high blood sugar causes.

That depends. How high are the blue range AMPS? How far does he normally fall from AMPS to +2. When is his nadir? How long am I going to be gone? You have to know your kitty and tract these things. Templeton is hard to figure right now. You are seeing some really good numbers and some really high bounces. If I were you, and I had to leave the house in the morning, and he had a safe blue at AMPS, I would leave a good size tablespoon of medium carb food for him. As I said, it depends on how long you were going to be gone. You might need to leave more but I prefer to err on the side of safety. Always, consider safety for you kitty first. They like to say on this site that it is better if kitty is too high for a day than too low for a minute.

Let me clarify something else. If you are going to be gone all day, a tablespoon of medium carb will not be enough. Do you have an auto feeder? You cannot leave your cat without food if you are going to be gone all day. How long are you planning on being gone? How much do you feed Templeton during the am and pm cycle? All of this has to be balanced with your time away and how low (or high) he is. I am not the expert here. I just started on this site in December but I am learning about Susie and what she needs. Remember that every cat is different and that what Susie may need may not be what your boy needs.

Yes. We still have three lovely kittens! So sweet. Some fireworks that scared one of our cats but they weren’t too close to the house— it could have been worse.

Yeah, I guess I'll just have to get more data now that I have him on a consistent dose within PM skips. Then I'll feel comfortable leaving the house.

So many things to consider! I'll sit right here on the couch for now. :)
