Norman is very talkative right now. He had a decent day, he sat in my lap this morning all lovey and purring up a storm. I think we cleared the bounce. He is however having a rough time with food, he is not transitioning off of Friskies Special Diet as well as I would like. We are trying Wellness Turkey Formula with him , Core and even EVO. I think his tummy may have been upset so he got a 1/4 tab of 10mg Pepcid AC today. I am concerned about his drop in BG , he is not eating the wellness the same way he did Friskies SD...ON Friskies he ate every 3 hours like clock work during the day and always had to have snack before bed , he ate approx 1 full can and then 3/4 of a second can ( he is big boy , long , tall and a good 1 .50 pounds overweight )...on Wellness I am lucky to get food in him every 6 hours and then its only about 1/4 can. Tomorrow I am going to keep better track of his food by not sharing the can with the other cats. Normans can will be kept separate all day to see what he actually consumes of it....I am concerned since he is not as hungry on Wellness how I would ever surf him , his drops are bigger now since he is not eating as often as he use to on the cheaper food....

Is that a short can, the 5.5 oz cans? How much does he weigh? Punkin ate 9oz total per day and he had acromegaly and weighed 13-14lbs. If he's overweight, you want to help him SLOWLY lose weight. There is a lot of good info on food, nutrition and weight at www.catinfo.org.

Did he have a reason for the SD - does he have some kidney issues? If not, you might just try another Friskies pate.

If you can't get him to eat enough of the Wellness, then you might have to try something else. If that's a 1/4 can of one of the short 5.5oz cans, that's definitely not enough. I don't know how much volume he needs, but that sounds too low. My non-diabetic cats eat one 5.5oz can each per day - the 2 boys are pretty big and weigh around 10-11lbs, the girl is petite and weighs maybe 7-8lbs.

Good luck figuring out the food.

I use the 5.5 ounce cans and Norman weighs 18 pounds and when I say 1/4 can I mean every 6 hours he eats about 1/4 of the can. and no on special reason for SD , just what he picked he eat, I always have been concerned over high phosporus levels so I chose the SD and he loved it...We have tried the regular friskies Pate and he snubs it

oh - i misunderstood. I thought you meant that he ate a total of 1/4 can in the whole day! So in the whole day he eats about 1 can? That might be ok, depending on the calories and his activity level. The main thing is that cats are supposed to lose weight very slowly so the fat they lose doesn't actually clog up their liver. Dr. Lisa on the catinfo.org site has a suggested rate of weight loss.

Wellness is a little higher in calories - he may not need as much. Might want to check to food chart to see if you are feeding him the same number of calories as he was getting in the Friskies.

Nice to see Normal ditching that bounce.

Yes I figured out his calorie allotment per the vet which is 250 calories a day , so he is eating a little less. Like I said tomorrow only norman will be fed from one can so that I can gt more of an exact amount of food he consumes. On the cheaper foods he every 3 hours during the day so we could always surf his numbers if needed, now that will be a little harder since he is so full....I am hopeful that he feels better now since he is clearing the bounce and maybe he will eat a little better tomorrow.

You could always buy some MC ....like 10-14% to have on hand if you need to help him surf and he ever refuses LC. Maybe that and/or finding some very favorite LC that he can't resist and keeping it only for those occasions. Some MCs have sauce....so would only take a few licks which you can probably get out of him even if he's not really hungry
