Let me first say that both of my kitties are perfectly fine. They are not acting any different, they are eating the same and both just as lovey...and Lucy's BG levels are looking just like normal...

Last night I gave Lucy her PM shot at 7pm and then left immediately for a fireworks show. We didn't return until 11:30 and when we did, we returned to a kitchen that looked like a murder scene. There were drops of blood on the floor, splattered on the wall and some on the living room carpet. In inspected the cats and literally found not a trace of blood on either of them. They were also both just lounging in the living room as though nothing had happened.

I suspect a nose bleed...which has never happened before. Has anyone else experienced a similar situation...? I want to be clear that this was WAY more blood than a head shake after a prick for testing BG.

I went to bed last night hoping not to find more this AM and I didn't...none. It's a very strange situation...I don't know whose blood it is!

Thoughts??

Hi guys .. wow .. crazy! I can't imagine a cat having a nose bleed that extreme but one never knows I guess .. I hope all is well your babies!

Check their claws including the dew claws. If they pulled out a claw somehow, that can create a blood splatter. Cats being fastidious, may have cleaned up their fur before you got home. But left the rest for you to clean up when you got home. ;-)

Hi Becky--

I hope who ever is the culprit is okay.

How about some blue, Lucy, to celebrate the fourth? or some green for "christmas in july"?

My sister's cat has had nose bleeds. Usually, this involves a sneeze with lots of blood spatter. I would suggest talking to your vet, though.

wow, that would be something to walk into!
Hope you find out what happened.....maybe you need to call the CSI team in your area, lol!!!!

Lucy.....today is 4th of July, yes, that means red. white, and blue.....can you try for blue??

Yikes! Hope that it was just a one time thing, whatever it was. Hey Lucy, work that juice today and put on your blue for the 4th of July!

Oh no! That's scary!!!
There was this one time my two cats had a small fight, throwing cat punches to each other.
Gingers's claws were long and sharp at that time (totally my fault), and got caught in Lucy (my Lucy that is), and Lucy bled from her paw more that I would have imagined from such a small wound.
Lucy didn't seem to notice the wound, I was the only one freaking out.
And I think cat's wounds like this (small puncture or sharp cut) can close very quickly....
Is it possible that your cats had a fight?

Could it have been from a mouse?
That was my first thought too. A mouse or some other intruder they happened upon.

My initial thinking was the same as Dyana & Carl. Then I thought about my Gateway (GA). He used to have nose bleeds. It took me quite a while to figure out where it was coming from because he was always clean when I inspected him. He was my seizure kittie. Usually though his nose bleeds were small and although they involve splatter because he would shake his head, the blood was pink (most of the time) instead of bright red. I think it was mixed with whatever he sneezed out. Then another thought occured to me, have you checked their teeth? Could one of your kitties have broken one off? My sister's cat lost one of her fangs one time. Just a thought.

Hope all is well at your house and you never see this happen again. Too scary. Have a great 4th.

Oh wow that's scary. I hope you find out what happened. nailbite_smile

I hope you had fun at the fireworks show at least.

Come on down to blues, Lucy. :D

I thought possibly a mouse too but have seen ZERO signs of any intruders! I will check their claws and teeth...we'll maybe never know...

I think everyone's positive energy sent towards Lucy's way for getting her in the blue worked today though! Thanks guys!!

My civie, Freddy, had a little scab on his ear once. He tussled with Pepper in the kitchen one evening and the scab came off. His ear started gushing blood and then he shook his head and blood flew everywhere! The kitchen looked like the scene of a bloody ax murder! I didn't know so much blood could come from a cat's ear!
