I haven't been here in a long time. Mostly because we got a handle on Sox's diabetes and he's been pretty well regulated on Lantus for over a year now. His dose is gradually coming down, we started with 1Unit inching as high as 7 - 8 Units at times when he was still in the 400's. The last few weeks it's been pretty warm around here and we noticed last year that during intense heat episodes, Sox requires less Insulin. Most recently over the last 1-2 week period the temps have been in the 80-90's and Sox dose was between around 4Units AM & PM, BG mostly in the low to mid 100's. These past few days we've even dropped dose to 3Units. This morning he was at 160 and I gave 3 Units. He was fine all day, had dinner, got his PM shot of 3Units BG 172. A few hours later, it's finally cooling down and kitty is demanding his outdoors time. I let him out, he lays down and stays on the porch for about 30min's. As he gets up I notice a real wobble with sudden hind weakness...a shocking reminder of times past such as two years ago when he was diagnosed with very high BG above 500 and after put on Lantus started respondind and getting better. It really freaked me out, I quickly tested and noticed kitty dropped to BG78 at 4+ after his PM shot. We regulate Sox with mostly wet food and supplement his steady blood sugar with renal diet kibble. I gave him some and also got out the honey. I'll keep retesting the next few hours and hope for improvement, we regularly update our vet and she's very pleased with Sox results and he was just in for a check up 3-4 weeks back. Any advice on what this hind weakness could be? Sox is a chronic kidney kitty on top of the diabetes, so I'm worried it's the kidney's failing.
