Yesterday's Condo

Morning everyone! Shadow just squeaked out a yellow this morning.. He is grooming his beautiful fur right now after a nice breffis and a trip to the LB. As the month draws to a close, he is still battling his liver it seems. Not much progress toward nice numbers but he is still the sweetest little guy. We will be celebrating a year's anniversary too soon. We will be on insulin one year as of Aug 5th. I really prefer celebrating a year's OTJ with Spooky and Monique though...Congratulations to them for their success!! :mrgreen:

Hey Shadow! Looking good! - well better than me.... I am pink yet again. We had fun last night! Maybe we both can find the blues today and do a little surfing... ~~ Mannie

Wow - almost a year? How time flies when one is having such fun. :-D I was thinking last night while I was testing Mannie, as he sat on my lap, as content as any kitty could be, how really great he is. And so many of our LL kitties - they take this all in stride, let us do what we need to do for them, and continue to be the best cats we could hope for.

Almost a year? You know Tori was on insulin for over a year before she went OTJ. Some kitties just take a bit longer. AS long as he's happy and healthy right? Hopefully Tori and Shadow will be able to got surfing the blues later today.

well who knows, maybe after a year to the day of getting on insulin shadow might decided to start kicking that habit and head towards OTJ with his sister! I hope you guys have a great saturday!

Oh yes Shadow is invited to the party! I hope he chooses a better color before evening. Spooky doesn't seem to care today he is just begging to go outside for a walk (he usually just wants to eat grass and dig in the dirt :roll: ) He did get 1 french fry at lunch :lol: Now he is sleeping on the printer as usual. Thinkin' bout making Käse Spätzle for dinner (if I have the energy after mowing the lawn and chipping tree branches) I guess I better go to the store quick or we won't have anything to eat except cat food (always have plenty of that) :o

Shadow made a big commotion in the LB but it was hardly worth the effort. I tried miralax yesterday too just like Putty. But wait...just as I am typing...he is there again! Nevermind. Two little deposits that do not amount to the magical poops I was hoping for. :roll:
He is so very affectionate today. Clear skies now and maybe we won't have thunder hopefully.
How about that drop folks....7 points....wow...really moving now! :roll:

Been thinking about getting a thyroid test at the vet office on Monday...what do I need to know?
Guess it might be a good idea, right?
Any suggestions?

Pat....any particular reason why you want the test....symptoms?
Just wondering.

I think Putty had about a cup of MIralax by the time it actually worked.

Hi Pat, I too, was wondering if he had symptoms, but when Checkers was diagnosed with FD, he had thryroid testing done too. Gotta rule out certain things. Hmmm, or was that his civvie brother, with the bald patches? Gotta look that up.
LOL on the big 7 point drop. Checks got a 4 point drop in three hours. They like to keep us guessing, don't they?

I hope your boy makes nice tootsie rolls today. :-D

No symptoms but I have never had that test done....just wondering if I should.

Any magical poop sightings yet, Pat? :lol: You always make me laugh. I don't know anything about the thyroid test, so I can't help you there. Buzz is coming up on 1 year on insulin, too (August 10th). I'll meet you on the ledge on August 5th, and you meet me there on the 10th. ;-)

Pat -

Does your vet run a senior panel at the time of your guys' annual check up? If so, a T4 should be a part of the usual blood work. To confirm a thyroid diagnosis, you would also want a free T4 but for screening purposes, a T4 is fine. I believe the prevalence increases with age, which is why a T4 is included in senior panels.

Ah, yes this number is better. Shadow does tend to peak later than the halfway point of his cycles.

I hope this is the start of 'more better' numbers :-D Good luck with the vet visit.

If you are going to get the test - make sure they do both tests - the T4 and the Free T4. And while you're at it, if he hasn't had tests done in awhile, have them run a senior panel and the T4 is part of it and you only pay extra for the free T4.

I know it sounds silly having to pay for a "free" test.....but that's what it's called.

Hmmmm, don't they say something about late nadirs? I hope it's a good sign.

I think weight loss is one of the main signs of hyperthyroidism, my DS has it. She was PO'd whe she got it under control and she gained weight. :roll: I did a quick google search here is a good site I've read about http://maxshouse.com/Hyperthyroidism_in_Cats.htm

Apparently the range that labs use is pretty broad and there can be a lot of false positives. If Shadow has had a T4 done before one good check is fi a new test is the same or lower,(it should reduce w/ age) If the newer test is higher it is a good indication of a problem.

if you'd like to save some money, what you can do is have your vet draw enough to send to the lab to run both the T4 and the free T4, but order only the T4. if the result comes back questionable (and this is tricky, look up euthyroid sick syndrome - send cassandra a PM about it, she's the thyroid guru here), then your vet can call the lab and have them run the free T4 with the extra serum that had been sent to the lab.

Hi Pat. Hang in there. Some take longer than others to get with the program. T4 and free T4 were included in Tuffy's bloodwork last month when she had her physical. Hope he comes down some more today. Our temp here is 107. Yes, 107. My poor horses are just standing sweating. Hope it is cooler where you are. I am over this heat totally. I come home from the barn soaking wet.

We were cooler here today according the the weatherman....about 90 because of a sea breeze coming in from the Gulf. Inland it was so much hotter....sorry Barb...sounds beastly!
 
shadow there is no reason to be up in stinkus pinkus land tonight .. nothing fun is happening there! Come on back down now ...
