YESTERDAY'S CONDO:
posting.php?mode=reply&f=9&t=122621

I thought again about taking him up this morning. If it was a bounce it should have cleared yet if I fur shot maybe he needs more time. So I held but if this doesn't work magic I think I will take him up tonight. Being higher again has me thinking so. His vial will be 70 days old tomorrow but the last one lasted 6 months before it failed us so I don't think that is the problem. I'm so disappointed that he seems to be going the wrong direction. He isn't losing any weight yet either and I am feeding him less but I guess not enough less so I will cut back a little more.

Re: 7/31 Max AMPS 279+2=216+4=78

So whatever happened seems to have ended. I might have given at the most a drop more to compensate for the bubble. I can not get rid of a fairly good sized bubble that is there each shot.

Lev question. IF I switch, I like to take a spin class and am gone from 8:30-10:30 a.m. some days and 4:30-6:30 p.m. other times. Then on the weekend I go to my mom's for several hours and would need to be there roughly at some point between 1:00-6:30 p.m. I can tweek that up or down. When would I be safe to shoot lev and what time would I need to test in the middle of the night? I just can't figure this out. Thanks.

Re: 7/31 Max AMPS 279+2=216+4=78+4.75=47

I waited too long I guess to retest after that big drop, 45 minutes. I did feed him lc at the +4. I just can't seem to find the right combo for Max. He drops, bounces, clears, bounces!! Any suggestions on how to stop this crazy cycle???

Re: 7/31 Max AMPS 279+2=216+4=78+4.75=47

I think if you want to continue to use lantus, maybe we should try using a bit of R as he starts the bounce. I mean a little bit to start with at the very, very beginning of the bounce to see if that will slow him down on the rise.

If you want to switch to levemir, it's one of those ECID things. Neko has a really nice lev cycle. She onsets at about +5, nadirs around PS. Perfect. Nice and steady. Gracie....she does not have a perfect lev cycle and we just have to roll with it. When her dose is right, she just goes from one shot to the next so sometimes she comes up at +2 a bit, sometimes she goes down. She usually nadirs really late when the dose is right. If the dose is not right, her duration is not good. All you can do is try it and see what kind of cycle Max will have. Just as in lantus, it's not possible to predict from cat to cat when they will exactly onset and nadir.

It takes some getting used to....at first, it seemed we were kind of starting over but then we got the hang of it. You might not see immediate results for the better. Sometimes it takes a few months to see them doing markedly better; sometimes not. ECID. But you have to give it time. I'd say if after six months, he's not making the progress you want, you can switch him back or try PZI.

R also works really well with levemir once you know his cycles so that's still an option.

Re: 7/31 Max AMPS 279+2=216+4=78+4.75=47+5=52+5.75=49

Maybe this is especially hard this time because of the partial or missed shot. There is also the air bubble issue. I can't do any changes until after my nephew's wedding which is a week from Saturday (Aug. 9th). I just fed him gravy and karo again.. Since we are at +6 he should start to go up now.

Re: 7/31 Max AMPS 279+2=216+4=78+4.75=47+5=52+5.75=49

Good catch on that 47!  Nice use of the dosecrease threat to get action.

If you switch Max to Lev, you'd have to first find out when his onset and nadir are. The average Lev onset is around +4 and nadir around +8. Neko, like a lot of acrocats, does both later than average. But her nadir is reliably somewhere between +5 and +15. Although most often somewhere between +9 and +12. But she also had a very variable nadir on Lantus. I felt like a complete newbie again for the first month after the switch. You'd just have to be prepared that you have to learn Max's patterns again. But Neko's relative flatness is a lot less stressful for me now.

Re: 7/31 Max AMPS 279+2=216+4=78+4.75=47+ 5=52/49+6=52+6.57=

Thanks Wendy and Marje for the lev info.

He just came up to 77 at 6.5 so I fed him a little 10% to see if he will surf. Usually he goes straight up without blinking. I probably should have given lc in retrospect but the mc was there and I wasn't thinking.

Re: 7/31 Max AMPS 279+2=216+4=78+4.75=47+5=52/49+6=52+6.5=77

So Max decided the lagoon was the best place to hang out on a hot summer day. Time to come up for air, Max! Your toes are getting webbed!

Good luck figuring out what to do about switching to Lev, Elise. I'm too scared to rock the boat to consider something like that, but Max gives you a wilder ride than Cinco does me, so I understand your thinking.

Sending safe surfing vines.

Re: 7/31 Max AMPS 279+2=216+4=78+4.75=47+5=52/49+6=52+6.5=77

Rusty usually onsets arouund + 4.5. Sometimes his nadir can be early (+ 5.5), but more often around +7 or 8.

Air bubbles. What syringes do you use? With the Terumos, I find that the bubble is easy to expell. Center it at the base of the needle, then, quickly and deftly, do a pull-push. The bubble will be gone. You have tompractice to get this motion, but it really works. We use the Terumo 31-gauge syringe with half-unit markings from ADW:

Good luck

Re: 7/31 Max AMPS 279+2=216+4=78+4.75=47+5=52/49+6=52+6.5=77

Those are the ones I use. The bubble is at the bottom and I can get it to the top but it always lands on the side and I can't get it in the middle. I wish someone could be here to show me how. This has been going on since I switched from the monojects which didn't ever have bubbles but the hub thing was making things so difficult to gauge.

Max is now at 127 and I wonder when the bounce will begin.

Re: 7/31 Max AMPS 279+4=78+4.75=47+5=52/49+6=52/77/103PMPS 1

Wow! What a pleasant GREEN surprise Max had in store for you today! Nice long run in normal numbers. Fingers crossed that the bounce won't have a chance to get going before the next dose onsets and keeps Max nice and flat tonight.

Re: 7/31 Max AMPS 279+4=78+4.75=47+5=52/49+6=52/77/103PMPS 1

Thanks, Jen. That would be nice. I had a interesting on line chat with the vet on a list who told me I shouldn't be using carbs to get Max up. He called it candy. He said protein should do it. He hasn't me Max!!! I have to hop on over to see what Eddie has been up to today.

Re: 7/31 Max AMPS 279+4=78+4.75=47+5=52/49+6=52/77/103PMPS 1

Hi again,
I flick the side of the syringe quite hard with my fingernail 2 or 3 times. That gets the bubble up to the top of the barrel. If it's not centered, I flick it until it is. But usually it is centered. Then do the quick pull-push.

Re: 7/31 Max AMPS 279+4=78+4.75=47+5=52/49+6=52/77/103PMPS 1

Ella, I can't get the bubble centered no way, no how. I can get it to the top but that is it. Do you use a vial or pens? When I change to the pen I'll practice with the vial. I threw out my first one. It didn't help to practice with water. What can I say? I fail bubbles badly.

Re: 7/31 Max AMPS 2794.75=47+6=52/77/103PMPS 127+1=168

That's a nice slide for Max today, that was a quick drop to +4  you were very busy!

Re: 7/31 Max AMPS 2794.75=47+6=52/77/103PMPS 127+1=168

I use the Canadian Levemir cartridges. But I have also used the Flexpens and see no difference in getting the bubble centered. I don't think Lantus would be different, but it has been a long time since I used Lantus.

Sorry you are having such trouble!

Ella

Re: 7/31 Max AMPS 2794.75=47+6=52/77/103PMPS 127+1=168+2.25=

Thanks, Ellla. I haven't used the pens yet. I'm using a vial. I don't think that would make a difference though since you get bubbles too and can get them to the center and I can't.

So far no bounce. It will likely be a busy night and bounce tomorrow. Ruth, that is what seems to happen if Max comes down quickly or even just hits 50-=80 lately.

I just gave him a little lc with stella and chewy's.

Re: 7/31 Max AMPS 2794.75=47+6=52PMPS 127+1=168+2.25=156+3.5

So down at +2 and up at +3.5. Let the bounce begin!! Again!!
