She ate about 1 1/3 Tbsp FF for breakfast and she's nibbled on some more a few times since I measured. Not bad. She also ate between 2 tsp and 1 Tbsp at +9 snack time. And I did see her nibbling on food pretty often last night - which was great, because I haven't seen her willingly feed herself much the past few evenings.

Still sneezing of course, but she tries to stop it when it starts - you can see her lip curl up and then she stops whatever she's doing and looks like she's concentrating... at that point, either nothing happens or the sneezing overcomes her. Her nose was sort of bloody on and off last night. Not bad, just a little blood that I kept wiping away. I got out some liquid colostrum (you would be surprised at the strange supplements I have around my house) and tried to get a few drops in her nose. One of the recommended uses for the liquid colostrum is to stop nosebleeds (I guess some people have chronic nosebleeds). Anyway... so far this morning I haven't seen any blood, so that's good. And no mucus either for a day or 2, although there has been some clear drainage.

I dozed on and off last night... Apparently dozed thru the +4 check, but caught up on the +5... Then I woke up for snack time at +8.5. So, to continue that tradition, I am going to try to go btb for a while longer now - I really need to try to get some sleep this weekend, cuz it was getting dicey last week - it was even hard to drive cuz I had such problems concentrating.

Ok... so I was at the health food store and picked up an outrageously expensive pet allergy formula - homeopathic... I didn't like the pills because I felt the sugar might be spiking her BG a bit. This has no sugar, is liquid and you put it in their water or directly in their mouth for a faster effect. Around +10, I put the formula in the water and syringed a bit into Kasha's mouth. Now, I'm not saying it's working or anything... but she didn't sneeze once during dinner or since I've been back home (which is only about 1/2 hour, to be fair). Usually, eating seems to trigger sneezes.

She ate over 1 1/2 Tbsp Wellness Turkey and Salmon dinner. Probably closer to 1 2/3 Tbsp when all was said and done. Which is pretty good for her.

In unrelated companion animal news... My horse was on twice daily anti-inflammatories (bute) for a month. About a week ago I switched him to once daily. When I saw him today, he was walking pretty well on concrete (his nemesis - when he's sore it's very hard for him to walk on the concrete walk outside his stall) and moving really well on dirt or grass. I hope I can wean him off the meds completely, cuz they can be kind of hard on the stomach.

Also unrelated - I made an omelet today using 3 peppers from my garden/planters and fresh basil and oregano as well. Yum. Kasha refused to have any of the eggs - apparently she prefers McDonald's eggs

I'd called my vet in the morning to find out some info on Kasha's dental, which is scheduled for Tuesday. No one called me back... but then, I got a call around 8:15 pm from my vet tech. I thought she'd seen my email, but she hadn't... they just had a crazy day at the office and she was at home, returning my call. We talked for about 1/2 an hour - went over everything about the dental. She said they no longer fast cats before these procedures and that I should feed and shoot as usual that morning. I might put something in my subject line tomorrow or Monday re: dental procedures, see if I should skinny her dose that morning. She'll be at the vet in the morning for blood work, but won't have the actual procedure till afternoon. I'll send some food along with her (regular LC? MC?) but not sure that she'll eat when she's there.

She went thru everything - I had my little cheat sheet from what I've seen posted when other cats here on FDMB have had dentals, so I followed right along. I did stress that Kasha should NOT under any circumstances be given Metacam. I'm still annoyed that Blue had a Metacam injection after I made my discomfort about Metacam known to his surgeon (not at my vet practice). My vet tech said that the problems linked to Metacam were with the oral version and she's seen nothing to indicate that the injectable version should cause problems but they will totally understand if I don't want Kasha to have any Metacam at all. In fact, she said that even though she's seen nothing to suggest the injectable version poses a risk, she doesn't use it for her own cats either. Everything else she said matched up with my cheat sheet, so I'm feeling a little better now.

So far - 2 sneezes in the last 4 hours...

What I've usually seen is no food within 8 - 12 hours of a procedure. Anesthesia slows gastric motility and if there's food in the stomach, it can be vomited and aspirated -- or at least that's the case in humans.

Oh hey, Sienne... Didn't know if you would ever come back after I nearly bit your head off the other day... Sorry about that... I blame it on hormones and a terrible sleep deficit. Can't imagine why I'm single - LOL!

As for your statement - that's what I expected. But my vet tech says they no longer do that with cats because they seem to be more prone to hypoglycemia (?) and when they are intubated for the procedure, they can't vomit anyway. Something like that. I'm not sure exactly why that would be, in retrospect, but I would assume that even if they could vomit, they wouldn't aspirate if the tube was in - right?

I know so little about surgery because I'm still waiting till we have Star Trek technology and can somehow detect and heal non-invasively.
