I woke up at 3 am EST, took Fluffs BG - 98!!!!! This is the first time it was ever in the green. I don't know how these things work and I was concerned his number would drop below 80 before he is fed at 8:45 a.m. so I fed him a little snack.

Does the amount of insulin need adjusted? He is Lantus 3.75U. I typically will take his BG before I turn out the light for the night which is approximately 11 or 11:30 p.m.. I believe his number at that time determines whether he gets a snack or not if his number is in the 300s I have not given him a snack. I think that's been my practice. But I can't swear to it. I'm so tired! And I'm in a lot of knee pain.

Should I typically be giving him a snack at 11:00 or 11:30 before I go to bed regardless of his BG number? He does just eat at 8:45 p.m. I totally want to avoid anything hypo and his numbers dropping too low during the night but I don't understand how his numbers drop and how to avoid it.

UPDATE
@ 6:30 am Fluff pestered the daylights outta me so I checked his BG - 87!!! I FED HIM ANOTHER SNACK...MORE WET FOOD. AT 3:30 AM HE HAD 1/4 CAN, NOW HE JUST HAD ANOTHER 1/4.
I NEED SLEEP!! I'M GOING CRAZY. YESTERDAY WAS A HARD DAY. IN 1 HR I NEED TO FEED ALL BARN ANIMALS.

PLZ HELP IS FLUFF GONNA BE OK
DO I ADJUST HIS INSULIN AT 8:45 AM THIS MORNING.???

Good morning, Scarlette. 98 is a good, safe number. Please tell me how long it had been since Fluffy had eaten when you got that 98 reading? Snacks are always good to help keep our FD kitties more stable. I would give him a snack before I went to sleep every night if he were my cat. I would probably adjust the carbs of the snack based on that before bed test. If it’s what I considered to be low for my cat, I would give more carbs. If it’s high (like the 300 you mentioned) I would give a very low carb snack. Who sleeps in the room with you at night? How many cats? I'm just trying to figure out how you can give snacks at night. Obviously if all six are in there, it could be tricky!

At 3:18 am this morning Fluffs BG was 98. He usually gets a snack at 11 before I turn in for the night but I can't remember for certain last night cuz I was so exhausted. I buried my mom yesterday. It was a hard day. But since his numbers were at a 98 at 3:18 this morning it makes me question myself if I did give him a snack or not but I can't be sure I am just so tired and exhausted.

To boot I was taking care of the farm animals and forgot to set my timer and therefore fluffy did not get his insulin this morning until 9:17 that's a half hour late so how do I need to adjust his schedule for tonight and tomorrow?

I'm on the farm staying to my daughter returns from vacation. Fluffy is the only one that is here with me. And I forgot his low carb food that I'm using for a Topper at home. I can't drive back to get it either

QUESTION: Why would Fluffy's numbers jump all the way to 463 at PMP time?
AMPS BG - 163 ATE HALF CAN FRISKIES
3:20PM BG- 249 ATE 1/4 PATE
6:38PM BG-247 ATE 1/4 PATE
8:44PM BG-463 ATE HALF CAN PATE

Wendy instructed to adjust Lantus to 3.5U so tonight that's what I gave him.

Is there something I should be doing? or something that I should not be doing? I don't know what's going on with his number

** his BG test is always taken before he eats

See above post, but I don’t think you are doing anything wrong. In other words, it’s not your fault that Fluffy is bouncing. Just test and feed as usual. If he’s high, just give a low carb snack at bed (best to keep up the routine.).

Fluffy isn't used to greens, he's bouncing because of that nice stretch of greens. This is perfectly, and annoyingly normal. More so with recently diagnosed cats. Nothing you can do but wait it out.
