Hello Everyone,

Super late post tonight as I was very busy getting organized for our next trip. Ella seems to be in the yellows and pinks but she sounds content. I didn't get a chance to see her today but will give her a good bye kiss tomorrow.

I have a question about L-lysine. I sometimes give it to one of my fosters as she has flare ups (sneezing and winky eye). She has been sneezing for the past two days and I suspect it's due from stress however she doesn't have a winky eye. I've been giving her some lysine but am wondering if it's a good idea to give it to the rest of the crew as proactive measure. Is there harm in giving L-lyisne to cats who may not carry the herpes virus? The other two have had uri's in the past but they only happen once in a blue moon. Unfortunately I can't seperate Possum as she gets so anxious which exasperates the herpes. Does anyone have experience with using Lysine (Viralys gel)?

Thanks!

Thanks Sienne. I have that one too. I use both but sometimes it's just easier to use the gel instead of breaking up the capsules:) The powder is much cheaper!

Thanks for your post today--I dont know anything about lysine, but hope your kitties with the sneezies feel a lot better--Hugs From us!!

i use the same L-lysine powder as sienne does. i just mix it in their food.
when one kitty has the sniffles and sneezes i give L-lysine to the whole crew to prevent the others from catching anything...

I gave l-lysine to both Neko and Buster (GA) when he had the sniffles (calici). I also kept them separated, but Neko didn't get what he had. I've also worked at a shelter than used lysine for all kitties in the same room whenever one sniffled/sneezed. We just used the capsules. I noticed that the one I've got in the house had rice starch in it, so you have to look for one where the non medicated ingredient are FD friendly.

Good luck with the trip - it looks likes Ella will be fine while you are gone. I hope we'll be able to see you when you are here.

Thanks for visiting with some advice everyone:) I hope whatever is causing the sneezing will go away soon. I thought Ella was the only cat I really had to worry about this time around ohmygod_smile Wendy, I will get in touch with you the second week of the trip. I hope you have a smooth drive to Colorado and that all goes well at CSU.

The latest literature is 500mg of lysine in bolus doses twice a day so 1000mg total for an active flare. Maybe he will lick up the 500mg in the juice from a can of wet food.

The gel doesn't have enough lysine. I bought my lysine powder from iherb.com and there is a $5 off coupon for first time customers.

we use lysine on the horses all the time so I have a bucket of this:

obviously use quite a small dose, but it's pure lysine with no additives (that I'm aware of).....I believe a full scoop (about a teaspoon) is 1000mg.. will have to look on the tub in the barn. I bet it is WAY cheaper than a lot of the stuff marketed directly for cats.

Rupert gets some about once a week, or if his eyes start to get very runny.
