Prayers continuing for Claudia and Rocket...

Trix's pre-shots have come down a tad, but I think we'll still proceed with the fattening tonight.

Civvie Zen is still not feeling well...I haven't been able to get him to eat anything more than a couple treats. I even tried Trixie's high-carb FF (although Zen is not a canned-food cat anyway) and some of Mario's crappy kidney kibble. The only thing that doesn't have my super worried yet is that he is defnitely snuffly, doesn't seem nauseous, he's purry and responsive to attention, and we have been through "kitty colds" like this with him before. I think when he puts his head down to eat, it bothers him, yet if I hold the food dish for him, he feels like I'm shoving it in is face and gets annoyed. I still hope he decides to eat something decent on his own very, very soon...I would hate to have to force-feed him, and I know he would really hate that. If everyone would add him to your lists, I would appreciate it!

Poor Zen, i hope he starts feeling better ASAP and is on the mend. Hopefully its just a kitty cold and nothing more. Could it be too hot down there and he's just not that hungry due to the heat? For sure i will add him to my list.

Good luck with Trixie's dosing, good that the yellows from last week seem to
be a thing of the past :smile:

Poor Zen :sad: Hopefully just a cold. Our bunch all have herpes & corona virus, so we get occasional
cold symptoms, not eating etc. from time to time, lasting a few days.

Thanks, guys. It is hot here, but I know that's not the cause for Zen...he definitely doesn't feel well. We also have herpes and calici running through our clan, so these kitty colds do pop up on occasion...

Sending feel better soon vines to Zen. Would raising the food bowl a little help? Like maybe put a Kleenex box under it?

if zen's nose is clogged maybe nothing tastes good because he can't smell it. have you tried heating it up so it's stinkier? yummers, stinky food! :lol: or sprinkling with parmesan cheese? sometimes punkin will lick off my finger if nothing else works.

trixie, on the other hand, is looking like Super Woman! you go girl!

We fattened up Trix's dose tonight; we'll see where that takes her.

Of course right now I'm just really distracted by Zen. He's definitely stuffy and snuffly and I'm guessing that's killing his appetite. In some ways, he seems more himself; his eyes don't look so glassy, and he was playing with the ratty threads hanging off my jeans, but he still won't eat. I've tried just about everything, although I don't have any parm in the house (we don't eat dairy). I thought about getting tuna, till I remembered seafood makes him barf...don't need to add that into the mix! I guess I'll have to make a judgement call in the morning...a vet visit may be in order. I don't think it's anything real serious overall, but as you know, the not-eating thing is worrisome. Of course my vet considers Sundays "emergencies", even though they're there anyway, so the rates are sky high...

Big sigh. If it's not one thing, it's another...

(((Amy))) I know we focus so much on our sugarbabies that when something goes on with one of the others, it starts to get a little overwhelming. Good luck on the dosecrease for Trixie Cat...I hope you start to see some lower numbers for her again. I hope Mario is doing well and stable.

Sending big healing vines to Zen. I hope you don't have to take him to the vet on Sunday but I agree that if he can't smell his food, he won't eat it. So he won't let you syringe feed him, huh??? I bet once you got him tasting it, he might decide to eat. Poor guy. Hope he gets better soon.

Mario is actually doing very well, thank you for asking! He's loving the By Nature Organics food; he's eating a lot more canned and not much kibble. He seems much perkier to me, too. I have yet to tell the vet that I've changed is diet, though...that's on my docket for sometime in the next day or so. I do want to keep her in the loop, and find out when we should test his kidney values next.

I'll syringe feed Zen if it boils down to that, but I know he will hate it. He's not big on wet food as it is (Heaven help us if he "requires" a diet change...it's one of those things I'm always trying to do, but that's another story). And medicating him can be done, but is pretty nightmarish, so I can only imagine what he'll do if we force food down his throat. He has till tomorrow to turn it around...I'll make a judgement call in the morning as to whether we should force feed, go to the vet, or do both. He DOES seem more like himself tonight, aside from the food issue.

I'm kinda feeling that "Calgon, take me away" thing right about now!!!

Glad Mario is doing well.

Have you ever seen the video on assist feeding? I taught Tobey when he was a baby so if I ever had to do it, he'd already be familiar with it. One thing that really put him at ease was just wrapping a towel around him as he sat....just like in the video. And then you just squirt a little food in their mouth on the side and let them deal with it. Here's the link; one of the ladies in the CRF group made it:

I hadn't seen that video before. I did have to assist feed our GA kitty, Mr Kitty, a number of years ago, though. It's been a long time, and I didn't do it for long, but at least I've (unfortunately) experienced it a little bit....

Thanks, Bev! It's so frustrating...I know it's just a "kitty cold", but ugh - eat already, cat!!! I just dug out the syringes I have...they're way too small for food. I don't know what I did with the ones I had from Mr Kitty...must've tossed him, since that was almost 10 years ago. I'm wondering if the local pet food store has syringes...I'll have to call first thing in the morning, unless Zen decided to eat for me then. I tried smearing some watered down canned food on Zen's gums in hopes that that would spark some interest. He was not amused.

I have 2 suggestions...

Locking Zen in the bathroom with the shower running really hot water so there's steam may help. It's something my vet suggested when George had a cold. Get the room good and steamy and then bring Zen in and either hang out together or let him sit in the room for 20 min. or so.

Have you tried L-lysine? It can help if you start it immediately. It's an immune system booster. Whenever Gabby starts getting sneezy, I give her 1/8 teaspoon x2/day mixed into food until her symptoms subside.

Poor Zen!!! And now Mario! I hope Zen decides to get off his anorexia kick and eats for you. I wish a stuffy nose stopped me from wanting to eat...I'd be hanging out with lots of preschoolers so I'd have a continual cold!!

Glad Sienne mentioned L-Lysine. I use it for Tobey and his snuffles abate quickly.
