WCR: Well, her appy is good and she's a professional napper. What she is NOT is social, herself, and lovey. I know I keep saying this, but she's been acting so different lately. She has her good moments, but then it's right back to withdrawn and weird. Last night, she flipped out on me as she was laying on my lap (she rarely lays on my lap, anymore). This is killing me. She use to want to be next to me as soon as I walked in the door and when I sat on the couch and when I went ANYWHERE in the house. Now, she could care less that I exist. I kind of got her to play a little, but afterwards when I went to pet her, she flinched. She has knocked her head a few times on the rungs of the chair and table, but I don't think that is what is causing her personality change. As for the 5 Ps, technically, she has all 5, but I am not convinced of the preening and purring. :-|

So, last night after she attacked me, we had a little heart to heart (nose to nose) chat and in that time, I noticed her breath stank (she had been cleaning her bum not too long before then). Anyways, I decided to check her gums. I know they're supposed to be pink, but hers are much more grey-ish. I sent a picture to my vet several months ago because there was a weird gum bump thing on her tooth...he didn't seem concerned about that nor the color. Anyone have thoughts on this? Suggestions? Advice?

Here is the pic I sent my vet back in the spring.

Nice flat blues for Shasta today - good job little one! I'm certainly no expert, but that bump thingy looks weird to me. I can see the gum being a lil swollen over a tooth, but that thing looks more like a growth, which sounds like that's what you were thinking too. Does it ever change in size? Does it bleed?

Pretty flat cycle today. I am so sorry that Shasta isn't acting like herself. ((((Deborah)))) I know you are worried sick and I don't blame you. Big hugs and lots of soothing and calming vines for Shasta!

I'm sorry Shasta isn't herself today. If the bump on her gum is bothering her, that could be why. Sending prayers to you and her.

Does the bump still look the same now? Nasty scratch! Did you wash it thoroughly with soap and warm water? No peroxide, it just seals it up.

Nice flat blue cycle. I'm sorry that Shasta hasn't been herself lately, maybe that thing on her tooth is hurting her or just making her feel crummy. Also if her gums are grayish... I would take her for a checkup if it were me, but I am a worrier. I once took a drooler to the vet for what they laughingly told me was just a pimple.

Good luck. I hope Shasta feels better and returns to normal soon. Have a good night.

Hi Tara, Melissa, Carla, Liz & Kathie ~

I went into work today to start getting things done before pre-planning next week. Sadly, I never get anything accomplished the week of pre-planning and therefore, have to go in at least a week beforehand. Luckily, the ac was on today. Here's to hoping that it is on all week!

As for Shasta, the bump on her tooth seems to be the same size as it was back in January when we took that picture. Here is what the vet said about it when I emailed him then..."The little bit of pink gum tissue is just a small amount of proliferative gum tissue and is nothing to worry about." It doesn't seem to have slowed her down when it comes to eating. I am worried about the color of her gums and mostly I'm worried about her mental state. I'm dying to take her to the vet's for a full work up...and then I remember who I'm talking about...Shasta McNasty...the cat that turns feral the second a hand is laid on her at the vet's office...oh yeah, and the cat with a heart condition so we have to be careful if we can sedate her. I'm about ready to get some vials and start trying to pull blood out of her on my own! I know there's something going on and this is just killing me.

When I got home from school, I got a little reaction from her...a little glimpse of the old Shasta. She met me at the door (btw, it was dinner time!) and kind of jogged after me as I went to turn off the alarm. After dinner, we laid in a Mannie-beam for a while and she let me pet and scratch her head & neck, but only kind of let me pet her back and sides. Also, I got several headbutts. Every once in a while, I notice she's holding her tail in a strange kind of way. I don't know how to describe it, but it's just different and not "cat" normal.

Ok, she just laid down next to me, so I'm going to try to get some more pets in before I go to sleep. Hopefully, I'll get to a few condos, too.
