Good Morning World! Welcome to our home! IT'S RAINING!!! IT'S 70 DEGREES! Yesterday.....KT/Levemir Discussion

KT
AMBG 359

No 'squish' dose this morning - we're counting off the 3 days with no insulin again. I shouldn't have given that 'squish' yesterday morning.. He's feeling wonderful and eating everything in sight this morning! He's eaten a whole can of FFeast, 3/4ths big can of Beef/Liver, 2 big spoonfuls of dog food and is now in there cleaning up the scraps that everyone else left. His runny poo cleared up, this morning's just curled the wallpaper....phew! FYI - we test for ketones daily after Dakota's ketonic episode - that pounded the CRITICAL importance of that into my head! If I hadn't tested for ketones when I did with him, he would have gone into DKA. I'm posting this as a reminder to me:

withhold insulin immediately... regardless of the numbers you're seeing. it's possible KT is telling you he's done with insulin and is simply stuck in a vicious circle of dropping and bouncing. trust me, it happens. when withholding insulin you'll want to withhold for a minimum of 3 days (6 cycles) to allow the bounce to clear and the insulin depot to deplete. fyi: not too long ago we saw a cat take around 5 days to clear a bounce before going otj. trust your gut and use what you know about KT to help in making decisions.

DAKOTA
AMPS 429

This is another ugly AMPS but it does have food in it - he cleaned up last night's foods about half an hour before we got up. He seems to be feeling just a bit better this morning but we'll see where the day goes. His eye is still very leaky. I'm thinking, again, he doesn't really NEED a dose of 1.5 as the more I increase, the higher the numbers get again. I test him for ketones every time he visits the lb....I NEVER want to go thru ketones again!

We had another break-thru day with JohnnyPuppy yesterday...he's the 'checked out' puppy mill little doggie. He's trying SO SO hard to keep his switch flipped to ON. For the first time since we finally caught them the end of June, he relaxed his tail and raised it a few inches! It tucked back quickly but that's the first 'tail' acknowledgement of the 'good' world he's now in. He's trying even harder to keep his head up and chest out instead of plastering himself to the floor. You can see the struggle - he gets scared, the head starts down, legs start to buckle but he meets my eyes, forces his head back up and relaxes his legs again. 'Junior', the other one, wanted to run and play this morning - grin on his cute little face, tail up and wagging 100mph! He runs in big circles then stops grinning to see if I tell him go again or it's time to come in. He's even obeying the 'OK, that's enough, Come' now!

Thoughts and prayers for all needing them - holding lots of our LL family close as they struggle with life.

BIG HUGS to all that visit today!!!

I really hope that this works for you guys. It would be nice to see another kitty, such as KT (and Lord knows he's as deserving as anyone else is) to be OTJ. I've never known about this part.

How does this work? (not like Blackie's going to get into remission anytime soon anyway) LOL

HUGS Angela and headbutts to all sweet babies too!

KT isn't 'normal' - we've struggled repeatedly with numbers, diving/bouncing, health, poop, eating, Lantus, NPH and now Levemir. He doesn't eat overnight, never has, he dives and bounces like a big rubber ball. The whole discussion about this approach is the second link in our first post. There were lots of good suggestions and thing to try with him. He's been diabetic for 3+ years...

HUGS!!

I wish you much luck on this approach. I've never tried Levemir, though, and don't think I really need to with Blackie (yet).

She's been diabetic for over 4 years now. Diagnosed March 13, 2010.

I don't check in much anymore, but wow, I'm glad to be seeing this!!! I'm so glad KT is giving you this workout, wouldn't want life to get boring :-D .

Love and hugs to you and yours!

Go, Mr. P! Get it in gear! Great news on the puppies, they fell into a tub of butter. :-D  That's what we say about my sister's dog, too.
