Re: 7/30 Kitty AMBG 56 - OTJ Trial Day 10

My poor old cat, Tuff, is acting like he's not feeling well today. His arthritis has been acting up again lately. I've been taking him outside during the day so that he can lay on the warm sidewalk. I don't know if that helps any, but he seems to enjoy it. He's such a sweet guy. I wonder if it's true about arthritis acting up when a storm is coming; it's supposed to rain today.

Re: 7/30 Kitty AMBG 56 - OTJ Trial Day 10

Yes, I can personally attest to arthritis acting up when it is damp, high humidity, storm coming, etc. :-D

Absolutely YES! The changes in the weather affect pain and arthritis! I've had 14 back surgeries, and I can tell you it's going to rain a good 72 hours before it happens...Usually before the super satellite radar notice!

I didn't use to believe it either when "old people" said "My rheumatism is acting up...it's going to rain".....I was like "Yeah Grandma, right"....Well, now I'm the Grandma, and us "old folks" know what we're talking about! :-D

Ugh, I'm going to have to call the vet tomorrow. Kitty's flea allergy dermatitis has come back with a vengeance, and she is miserable. When I picked Kitty up from the vet the last time, he said that when this came back, we could never use cortisone again. He wants to use some kind of steroid ointment and get her on a flea medicine. I sure hope that whatever he does, it doesn't bring up her BG! :?

Oh yes, Kitty loves green. Kitty and I are so excited about the party! We can't wait! flip_cat

On the flea dermatitis, from what I understand, the steroid creams are a lot different from steroids by pill or shot. Most of the creams/ointments are quite mild. Of course ECID so you'll have to weigh the risks with the benefits, but I'd think short term use to give Kitty some relief shouldn't cause any problems.

steroid creams and ointments are almost never
absorbed into the bloodstream-- if
topical steroids are applied in large quantities all over the
body (especially if used under occlusive bandages or wet
wraps) – absorption into the bloodstream is possible.

I think one of the best things to prevent Kitty from having recurring problems is to get on one of the topicals for flea prevention, like Advantage or Frontline. In the majority of cats, they're perfectly safe and can make Kitty much more comfortable by avoiding the bites in the first place. I don't know if they have any effect on BG numbers, but I'm sure others might be able to advise you if they use them on their cats and if they've noticed any differences. Might be a good topic for the main FDMB Forum.
