I had no idea that for some caregivers m/c and l/c food doesn't keep kitties up very long. Why would l/c lasts longer than the other two? :(

Wanted to give a "shout out" to two members who always provide me with a daily laugh.

You know what they say, "laughter is the best medicine" (or a rum and coke) and gosh knows all of us on this site need to laugh once in a while. :joyful:

I was going to explain but someone with more knowledge will do it better than I can. I just know if I have to give Dolly higher carbs to get her out of danger, BG too low, it only lasts a short while and often they drop too low again. This is why I don’t depend on it to keep Dolly safe at night, and I stay up until her numbers become stable in safe numbers. Could someone explain

Lc does not last longer. When the bg starts to go down rapidly, lc can sometimes slow the drop. Once a cat is under 50, it’s time for mc or hc to bring her up to a safe number. She needs to be up for 2 hours ideally without food because once the carbs are gone the bg can drop again. If very late in the cycle, you know your cat well, or the bg has come up dramatically you might not need a full two hours. However the directions for TR tell you to make sure the cat is staying safe without food for two hours.

I would not be able to sleep if Susie's numbers were too low until I saw them going up too.

I have not been doing that and I guess I should be. I have, erroneously, fed until she shows signs that she is on her way up. I guess I need to do better. I do, however, wait until she is at least in the 60s or higher. I also give m/c if she is in the 50's and h/c if she goes below that.

You’re welcome! It’s very important because we do not want an “urban legend” or the term “secondary bounce” to get started :) Not every increase from green and/or blue to yellow/pink is a bounce.

I just happened to see this and want to address it. There is no such thing as a double or secondary bounce. This is loss of duration. There can be many reasons for loss of duration including incomplete absorption of the shot.

I was always taught to not drop my guard until I had two consecutive rising numbers (without food).

You can’t control this as you would like to just as we all have found out if we’ve been around a while. Sometimes, we can understand it but there are so many variables that can be involved that it doesn’t do any good to fret. And that’s speaking from experience as it took us a while to realize we were along for the dance. We could change the music but the dance was what Gracie’s body wanted to do.

Susie has improved! See how she does the next few cycles; BTW, today she is bouncing. When she clears, increase if she has trended out of green nadirs. In the meantime, try to focus on something else and don’t get discouraged by her BG. If she’s feeling great, oh t your blessings.:)

Thank you, Marje. It is great to hear from you. Susie has always been a really "slow learner". For the most part she has these delayed reactions to increases and decreases. I was hoping this reduction was not going to be a failed one but I need to give her a little more time before I increase. She may surprise me, yet again. She is doing well, clinically, so I am grateful for that. Hope you and your husband are well and I heard you had been traveling. Hope you had a wonderful time. I think a lot of folks miss you on this site. I know I have.

Summer you are doing a Fantastic Job:bighug::bighug::bighug: Maybe all of the weather and fireworks are getting Susie upset:cat: We had a Thunderstorm earlier and Amethysts BG went up 15 Pts!!! We are suppose to get more storms tonight:arghh::arghh: Amethyst may very well end up in the yellows if that happens Also please stop beating your self up It has taken almost 4 years and 38Units a day for Amethyst to be where she is!:bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

I’m glad she’s well!

Yes, we’ve been gone quite some time but are finally home and trying to catch up here. We had a fabulous time and saw many family members we hadn’t seen in a couple years including grandkids. Thanks for saying that…I missed you all, too!

I have nothing but respect for you and your persistence, Pamela. It takes a true love to hang in there as long as you have with your girl. I'm actually hoping for rain tonight and tomorrow (not a hurricane or tropical storm). I just want the fireworks drowned out. You will always be an inspiration for me.

I feel your pain. I hate fireworks in the neighborhood. I like them in their appropriate place though. My cats hate them.

Just relax. I know how many times I have discussed with my husband that the blood glucose is not a linear thing where I give more insulin in precise amounts and my cat automatically starts to lower his BG by a certain number. It just doesn’t work like that. But, Summer, remember that Susie can really surprise you as well…. When she settles in. You are doing a fantastic job with her!
