Gracie's 6/26 Condo
Our hearts and condolences go out to Wendy (Tiggy) and Steve and Janelle (Marshy). We are so very saddened by the loss of their beautiful babies. Many Lantus/Levemir land prayers to them both.
Gracie would not eat for Mike Wednesday while I was at work and I didn't make much progress with her after I got home although we managed to get her calories in her because she's easy to syringe feed. I also noticed, when checking ketones that night, that her urine was a dark gold instead of yellow and I immediately suspected her liver was causing problems again. I took her in yesterday and the labs came back today that, yes, her liver enzymes are once again elevated. She ate well for me yesterday during the day but last night was a struggle.
We now have cerenia, ondansetron, clavamox on board and start the ursodiol tonight along with some of her pre-existing long-term supplements. She's been eating great today (touch wood) and seems to feel better. I have to give her fluids for a few days until she is eating totally normally and her urine is a normal color.
I thought I would have no Lupita Friday for you but, as it turns out, Gracie did not want to disappoint. Although she's eating her LC, she doesn't want the 12% food that works so well on her low numbers so I took the gravy off the food and put it in a 10-ml syringe. I had put Gracie up on the counter but then realized I needed to squirt some of the gravy out so I asked Lupita to just hold her so she didn't jump down. I heard Lupita say "It's ok Baby Girl. Everything is going to be fine and your mama is going to make you all better. Everything is going to be fine". And would you believe Gracie purred!!!!! She looked up at Lupita as if to say I know, Pita. Tanks for helping mama. I got tears in my eyes!!!! But, it didn't last long because when I told Lupita I'd hold her and give her the gravy, as Lupita let go of her, Gracie uttered hissesssss....don't get any ideas my being nice to you will last! That's my girl!!!
Dr. B and I have no idea why her liver enzymes go up every July but we hope they come back down quickly.
Mom is doing ok. Found out today the young woman that does her ironing and shops for her (and who packed her bag for the hospital) put her wallet in her bag and, yes...it was stolen in the hospital. She had just gotten her new Discover card. Sigh.
Many thoughts of you all. I am so sad that I can't be here to help but prioritizing. So many of you have so much going on but you still post and visit condos so I'm sorry I'm just not able to at this time. I am looking forward to retirement and getting my life back!!!
