Doogle is home! No more ketones and our phosphorus and potassium levels are all normal. He is a little wobbly but that is to be expected being cooped up for a couple of days. Started back on his lantus at 1.5u. He was on an Insulin CRI in his iv and then they put him on Humilin R and checked him every 2 hours. Had to stop on the way home to have his blood panel done again just to make sure and all was good. The stupid vet that we had to go to (which was who my husband used to work for and I cant stand) wanted us to bring him back tomorrow to have his BS checked...I said HELL NO!!! I dont think they expected me to know all I did. They asked if he was on a prescription diet. I dont think they liked that I said no and he was eating FF. They also looked surprised that I home test too. We are going to do a curve this week and adjust from there. Thank you to everyone for your thoughts and prayers!!! I am just thrilled he is home and feeling a whole lot better!!!!!

I will be more diligent to posting again. Once you get out of the habit, its hard to get back in it. But I will make sure I do!!!

It's great Doogle is home! I'm sure he'll be much happier to be back with you looking after him. I'll be looking for updates & hope he's feeling 100% very soon!

That's great news. Please home test for ketones. This is a crucial time. Making sure Doogle eats and is getting enough insulin are key. I'd also add water to his food. You may need to see about fluids since they help to wash out ketones. But, let's hope they aren't an issue.

Well Doogle is settling in again. The herd doesnt like his smell at all so we are keeping him away from the others till he gives himself a good bath and smells like Doogle. He came down a good bit since we got home but I expect the 449 was partly stress. He is eating and drinking well. The stupid vet wanted us to start him back on 3u but sorry, not doing that. I really hate vets that all they can see is the money. We are going to keep a check on his ketones. We do have some fluids if necessary. But so far so good, all clear on the Doogle front so far.

Doogle is still in the 300s but that is to be expected with his depot depleted. Still doing good at least. His poor neck is shaved all around the front and his little leg is partially shaved. All that had just grown back too after our May sickness....lol.

A little better PS than it was this morning. He still looks tired but he is getting better at moving around. At least he is eating good.

Tons of vines for your guy. Crazy vet, I think it's ego. Like he/she knows anything about dosing. Jeesh!

OT: Does kitten have a name?

No, kitten doesnt have a name. I have a real hard time with coming up with female names. But she is in love with Griff (that is the one we rescued last year at this time). He is three times her size but they play like litter mates. I am going to check for ketones every chance I get. Wish I had something like the emergency hospital had. They were pellets that detected it. He hasnt gone since he ate and we were out having dinner (which I needed some time out). So the minute I see him go, I am on it!!!!!!! Like the meter but seems like a alot to pay for when the strips work just as good.

Should I start giving Doogle some B12? We have a multivitamin that has 400 mcg of B12 in it. Should I just give him that? Or should I give him some separate from that? He just seems so weak but walking ok for the most part (just really slow like you would if you had been in bed for days sick).

How long before he really gets a good appetite back? He is eating but not like he was. Before he would almost and entire can of FF (about 2/3rd). I just want to make sure he is getting the food he needs. I am using Fortiflora and Parmesan cheese and it helps. I do have the valium (which is what they used in the hospital) but I dont want to use it if I dont have to. I want to make sure he is getting good protein. I am looking through the list and I have tried Merrick and Evo and Wellness and he hates them. He will eat some Friskies so I guess I can do those. The pet stores we have dont carry a whole bunch of what is on the list. Any suggestions on what would be best for him right now?
