Bounced high at PMPS last night but has started to come back down again. I took the reduction last night even though I knew she was bouncing, as I wasn't sure when the bounce will break.

I'll be pleased when the empty gelcaps arrive......she hates the tramadol. She is very good having it but because it is bitter, she can obviously taste it a bit even though I put it far back in her throat.

Looks like you got that much needed rest last night. Paws crossed she holds the reduction.

Have you ever tried burying the tramadol in a piece of food or pill pocket? Or even just coating it with butter to cover the taste?

Yes I did get a good sleep last night, thanks Wendy. What a difference it makes...I can think straight today!

I tried burying the Tramadol into some chicken which she will usually eat easily, but she spat it out. I tried that more than once....but I don't want to turn her off the chicken so I stopped. I think it must be really bitter because she does swollow it, but she finds it hard to eat for a few minutes and licks her lips and swallows.......I feel so awful giving it to her...she is so good letting me give it to her. I could try the butter although it will make it very slippery trying to get it in, but will be worth the try. Thanks!
 
Thanks Carla and Marilyn. A good sleep makes all the difference. I just could not get myself organised yesterday and everything felt it was just too hard. I kept saying to myself....you will feel better after a good sleep.

We can get bupe but it is very expensive and Sheba gets spaced out with it so I have gone down the tramadol track.....so far so good. Just hope it lasts.
Thank you so much for thinking of us Rhiannon. If I thought it would work I would jump at it, but also there is the ongoing problem of getting more later and paying for it. Animal meds are very expensive out here. We would also have to get this lot through customs and they have sniffer dogs who check out everything as far as narcotics go....we might both end up in gaol! They are so clever at sniffing out well concealed stuff.
So it probably would not be worth it....thank you so much though.
You have been in my thoughts these last few days. I hope you are managing to find some comfort in knowing you were a wonderful and devoted mamabean to Shadow and you unselfishly let her pass. :bighug::bighug::bighug:
 
Hope the gelcaps arrive soon, Sheba sounds such a good patient you must feel rotten
giving her bad tasting meds. Sleep, ah, perchance to dream ........
 
Yikes Bron, you had quite the night, and I give you lots of credit for babysitting all those grandkids on top of everything else!- whew!! Hope Sheba gives you a little bit of a break!

eta: One person I know wrapped up pills in cream cheese or Velveeta Cheese, and their cat loved it! But I know things like Pepcid and the like are horribly bitter, hope the gelcaps work!
 
I am glad you feel more refreshed today Bron. Hopefully the bounce won't last long and Sheba will be having very good glucose levels again soon.

I'm glad the Tramadol seems to be helping Sheba and there are no apparent side effects. Cinco handled it well, too, but the Gabapentin he's on now seems to have eliminated his itching, as well as his pain, so I'm glad we switched.

I don't know how I ever survived without gelcaps. They are the most amazing little things! I hope yours arrive soon.
 
Thanks Suki and Voula for checking up on us. Yes it will be good when the gelcaps arrive...I so hate giving her bitter tablets. I tried wrapping it in a little bit of chicken tonight....not sure if it helped....maybe a bit. If we could just eliminate the bounces it would be so good.......

I haven't tried cheese yet to wrap the pill in...I will.
I started looking after my first granddaughter when she was 3 months old and she is now 11. I left work to do it. I said I would as buying a house here in Sydney is so expensive they wouldn't have been able to afford to have kids for ages. 6 more followed and DH and I have been looking after them 5 days a week for 11 years. My kids pay cleaners to clean my house so I haven't cleaned the house for 11 years! We have a wonderful relationship with the GKids and I wouldn't change it. All but 1 are now at school so things are easier. School hols are busy but a lot of fun.

Sleep is that thing some people do at night. I believe it can become a habit!

I think Sheba might be getting a bit drowsy with the tramadol. She has been doing a lot more sleeping since she started it. Not much I can do about it though as she is only on 10 mgms and any less would not help the pain.
