Blue start to the day. We'll see how he's doing midday here shortly.

We've hung out at 5.25U for about three weeks now with pretty good results. Beginning on 7/6 or so, we saw a transition to mostly blue (sometimes green) overnights. But the daytime numbers remain stubbornly yellow.

What can be done to push these daytime numbers down without risking too low of readings in the nighttime?

Re: 7/29 Jenks AMPS 174 dose increase?

Here is a different link to Jenk's last condo. I notice that on the night of the 27th, Jenks got down to 48. What is your reduction strategy with Jenks? With newly diagnosed cats (less than one year since diagnosis) kitties usually reduce when they get below 50, unless they have shown they don't hold reductions well.

I can feel your pain on the great nights and bouncy days. From March through August last year, Neko did the same to me. I barely if ever saw greens during the day but lots at night. Some cats just like to go lower at night. You can try feeding a little higher carb at night and see if that helps. I wouldn't recommend a dose increase with that 48 a couple nights ago. If you can get the night time numbers a little higher and more like the daytime ones, then you might consider an increase. The good news is that Jenks is breaking the bounces pretty quickly.

Thanks Wendy! I don't know what happened with the condo link, but I fixed it also. I must've copied and pasted without watching what I was doing.

Though Jenks has only had a couple of green-based reductions in the past, each time we inevitably had to go right back up following it. So my strategy here is to hold fast at 5.25U and power through it. On the night of the 27th, he was careening downhill from a bounce of unknown origin, so I think that, rather than the dose being too large, is the likeliest culprit behind the 48. His numbers today have been pretty excellent. Having eliminated the bounce-clearing as a variable, if he dips into the 40s again tonight, it will be a much clearer indicator of a dose-related problem and not something else.

I also agree that it's a blessing that Jenks clears his bounces quickly, often within 24 hours rather than in 2-3 days.

What allowed you to break out of that pattern? Was it something that you proactively did? Or did Neko eventually just resolve it on his or her own?

Some people with kitties that don't take reductions well move to a strategy of 3 times under 50 or once under 40 before reducing .25U. Waiting to a second time under 50 should be fine.

As for what made Neko change to getting daytime lows - there was no magic formula. She finally started spending enough time in green that she stopped bouncing as much. She was doing the low at night, bounce during the day, clear then low at night thing a long time. I tried a lot of things to make her change. I even changed insulins to Levemir from Lantus. That didn't have an immediate effect, although I think it did help long term because she flattened out and started spending more time in blue and green so didn't bounce as high.

Nice blue cycle for Jenks today!

Thanks for the info!

It's a nice cycle indeed so far. Still continuing with a +2 174.

At +9 he's beginning to straddle the line between blue and yellow. But for all intents & purposes, he just surfed blues for 24 hours. That is a pretty awesome achievement.

Because Jenks doesn't like playing by the rules, I won't be surprised if he decides to run high all day today.
