Re: 7/29 Izzy amps 158, +2 167 +5 227 +6 228, +8 290
So according to the typical lantus curve...Izzy's number should go DOWN...not UP? What does this mean? Just that she ins't typical? or something else?
Why is she going up you ask?
1. possible fur shot
2. bounce. There is a good possibility that Izzy dropped lower overnight than that 144 you caught with a test at +2.
3. numbers do vary from cycle to cycle
4. she needs more insulin
5. ECID. not every cat is typical, not every cycle is typical.
6. something could have stressed her. Another cat, thunderstorm, etc.
7. she is being a cat
Lantus is a hormone. We can not always predict the action. We only have certain factors under our control like diet and how much insulin to give. There are going to be those oddball days where you will not be able to figure out the reason.
I do think in this case, the most likely reason is a bit of a bounce. Izzy's body is not used to those low blue numbers and probably dropped even lower last night. This means her body released counter regulatory hormones and glycogen to bring her BG numbers back up to what her body is used to. That could be higher blues or yellows for that matter. Doesn't have to be a drop down below 50. Only a lower number than her body is accustomed to.
Housekeeping note: I'd recommend updating your signature and taking out the number of units you are giving. It will be changing rapidly and we can get the exact dose from your SS from this point on.
