I did 2 reading this morning. The first one I didn't get quite enough blood and altough the glucometer gave me some time to get more...when I did I got a reading of 99. When I did the second reading getting enough blook the first time, I got 158, so I am believing the 2nd one and going with it.

Re: 7/29 Izzy amps 158

Hi guys .. bummer, I hated having to use two strips to get a reading .. but it happens! The 158 isn't a bad starting point anyways .. have a great day!

Re: 7/29 Izzy amps 158

Izzy does all the Ps except play. Not much a play girl being that she is an old geezer with arthritis along with her crf and diabetes :) but feeling good enough this morning to...A. scream at me that breakfast was taking too long, B. fight me over ear poking. She loves her boiled chicken..which is good since I use it for her miralax in the morning and her vitamin b and zobaline in the pm.

So according to the typical lantus curve...Izzy's number should go DOWN...not UP? What does this mean? Just that she ins't typical? or something else?

Why is she going up you ask?

1. possible fur shot
2. bounce. There is a good possibility that Izzy dropped lower overnight than that 144 you caught with a test at +2.
3. numbers do vary from cycle to cycle
4. she needs more insulin
5. ECID. not every cat is typical, not every cycle is typical.
6. something could have stressed her. Another cat, thunderstorm, etc.
7. she is being a cat

Lantus is a hormone. We can not always predict the action. We only have certain factors under our control like diet and how much insulin to give. There are going to be those oddball days where you will not be able to figure out the reason.

I do think in this case, the most likely reason is a bit of a bounce. Izzy's body is not used to those low blue numbers and probably dropped even lower last night. This means her body released counter regulatory hormones and glycogen to bring her BG numbers back up to what her body is used to. That could be higher blues or yellows for that matter. Doesn't have to be a drop down below 50. Only a lower number than her body is accustomed to.

Housekeeping note: I'd recommend updating your signature and taking out the number of units you are giving. It will be changing rapidly and we can get the exact dose from your SS from this point on.

I think this is a bounce.

Just so you don't make yourself nuts... Not every cycle is perfect. Every cycle won't be exactly what you expect. There are always surprises and twists and turns. If you expect that every cycle will look like it's "supposed" to -- that perfect Lantus curve, you'll be disappointed and thinking that you've done something wrong. You haven't. We don't have control over our kitties numbers. They are leading this dance. All we can do is follow.

Pretty sure she is going to drive me crazy :) I can't help it. She seems fine....and if I didn't know her numbers...I'd probably not worry at all...that's how fine she seem :) But I know her numbers and it drives me NUTS

How great is that? She's clearing her bounce really fast. Please be sure you get a test at +5 or +6.

Siennes point is a wise one. Gracie was on Lantus for a year and most of her cycles did not have a typical Lantus curve.
