AMPS - 423, 2u

Finally got my phone back, so the SS is REALLY behind. I'm working on that, it'll be really slow though, as I woke up sick.
Tip is still her normal self, working on getting a ketone meter so I can test by blood rather than use the ketostix so I can just get a reading like her average bG tests, in the meantime I'm still trying to get them. Guess my mom has had ketones(I think she said small? I'm not sure) before, so she's definitely more than willing to help with getting Tip tested for them at home if I need it.

My question is, how often should I test when it comes to a dose increase? Mostly concerned because I'll be getting a lot of sleep in these next couple of days so I can hopefully get better quicker and may not be able to test Tip as much as I have been trying to.

Unless you're planning to do a curve, I think the testing times depend upon the cat's history (ECID), but also upon the last test number. You at least want to get a PS test and a test around nadir, for each cycle, when you can. Since you are going to be home, I would start with a +2, today, to see where he is heading.
A lot of times, dose increases take a day or two to effect the BGs, as the shed builds up to the new dose, but I always try to get a few more tests in, after an increase, just to be sure.
Good luck with the new dose. And sending healing vines to you.

I'm so very sorry you are sick and hope you feel better soon.

Normally, we would suggest a PS, +3, +6, +9 for the first several days but since you are sick, how about a +2 to start with. If the +2 is about the same as the PS (within 20% meter variance), then how about a +6 and then a +10? If the +2 is much lower than the PS, it's going to depend on how low. If it's in the 200s, you should get a +4 at the latest. And then we'd have to see how fast she is coming down to determine the next tests.

If she is alot higher at +2 (more than meter variance), then get some sleep and just get a +6. Will that work?

Sorry you're not feeling well.

There is no one "right" answer to how many tests are needed. I agree with Dyana -- a lot depends on your cat. If you take a look at Gabby's SS, I tend to get a lot of tests early in the cycle. Gabby's pattern is one of fast, early drops. This morning is a case in point. So for us, it's rare that I need to test with any frequency later in the cycle. You're still learning about Tip's patterns on Lantus so you are still in the process of figuring out what Tip's pattern may be.

Getting a mini-curve (i.e., testing every 3 hours) is helpful when you first start Lantus. (See the New to the Group sticky.) Beyond that, getting spot checks is just as, if not more helpful than getting a curve. At the very minimum, you need to get pre-shot tests and at least one additional test each cycle. Again, depending on your cat, I find getting a +2 or a +3 for a cat on Lantus can give you a hint as to whether it will be an active cycle or not. You generally need to test more if it's an active cycle than if numbers are staying in higher ranges.

I slept through the +2, but I got at least a +6, that wound up being 357. I really hope I can get her numbers coming down soon. ): I'll be getting a +2 tonight and when I get home, I have a birthday party I have to attend, I have plans on looking at what times I've yet to get a lot of data on. See if I can't get more of those to get a more complete picture. I should be able to get more tomorrow. I think it's mostly keeping my temp down and I'll start feeling better.
