? 7/28 Thinking of switching Zeke to Levemir any advice?

I'm going to need to go in 2 hrs early one day a week for a while, normally I work 10 hr shifts, this day, Tues. will be a 12 hr shift, and I've heard there is a little time allowance for Levemir, not as strict about exact dose timing. Is this true? Is it same expense? Will the switch be difficult, same dose , etc? Thanks.

Time schedule wouldn't be a reason I'd switch to Levemir. And I don't think the 2 hours would be best handled by an insulin switch. I think that's too much for Lev, depending of course how well regulated the cat is. Can you make up the time the previous days so that Tuesday morning is two hours early, then you go back wards in shot time after that? I had a monthly board meeting where I had to leave home about +11, plus I had lots of regattas (events) where I had to shoot a couple hours earlier. I would just spend the days before hand moving the shot schedule up, then move it back after.

The Lev cost depends where you live. It was about $10 more than Lantus for a 5 pack of cartridges here - so nominal, but that's Canada. The dose may or may not be the same eventually. We suggest starting at 70% of your Lantus dose - as some cats have a strong reaction to the switch in insulin. Ultimately, some need more, some less, some the same. ECID.

It won’t be possible to give early dose on Tuesday due to getting home from work the same time that morning. I get home btwn 730a and 745a. No way to change AM dose. I don’t know what to do.

What time are you shooting now? When do you have to leave and when do you get home?

Can you just change your "chosen" shot times to 2 hours early from where you're shooting now? (even if it means getting up earlier than you'd like or stay up later?)

I never worried about changing shot times within an hour on Lev but shooting two hours early and then leaving would be a bit of a concern for me. I’d have less concern if you had to shoot two hours early once a week and you’d be home.

My suggestion would be to shoot 1/2 hour early a couple cycles before the Tues where you have to leave earlier so on that day, you’d only be shooting one hour early. Then you could get back on schedule within a few cycles.

If you give your shot times, I could give specific examples.

I wish I could, I shoot around 0745, getting home from work 15 min before that. I then do pm at 1945 and leave for work at 2000. This new shift on Tues has me leaving home at 1800 , need to shoot them and not returning until 0745 the next AM. And only one day a week (tues). It’s not a matter of sleep, it’s work. He’ll just have to get it early I guess. He’s not been low.

Thanks, I replied below:

Thanks, basically he gets his shot when I get home in AM at approx 0730. And Pm at 730 p, then I leave for work. New schedule has me one day a week on Wed, leaving early for work at 6p. Instead of 8p. coming home same time morning before and after. I gave him his shot 1 hr early tonight at 630p but won’t be home until 730am and leaving at 6p for work. Will give tomorrow at 6p. Not ideal, I know. Thank you.
