Fly free, dear Shadow! Thinking of you, Rhiannon.
Fly free, dear Jezebel! Thinking of Debbie today.

Hi Everyone,
We are at camp, arriving yesterday afternoon. I never did get online yesterday because a "surprise" was waiting for us: dead maggots all over a 3'x3' spot on the floor in front of the 'fridge. At first I thought someone had dropped some rice there several weeks ago, when the family was here. But apparently a mouse (maybe a bat) had died up in the eves, was eaten by maggots, which then died, and the dead maggots were being enthusiastically eaten by a swarm of ants. Ugh! They were in a slanting old roofline, so the dead maggots had rolled out and fallen onto the floor. I climbed up on a ladder to see all of this. Then we sprayed with a mixture of clorox and water, tried to pull all the dead maggots out with rubber-gloved hands, and then pushed ant traps into the space. Welcome to CAMP!! Then I mopped the floor with Murphy's Oil Soap. We didn't want to use ant sprays because of Rusty.

Anyway, Rusty had a good trip yesterday. He is having another trip bounce, but is happy to be here. Weather is HOT. We are about to go out in our canoe. bbl,

Ella & Rusty

Yo Kitties, I'm at Camp Stu this week and invite all of you to visit me for paddlin', fishin', swimmin', grillin', and just lazing around.

C'mon, Rusty! Aren't you used to that trip by now?? Come on down! How gross with the maggots  Glad you got them cleaned up!

Ella- How do you travel with Rusty? I'm bringing Noodle to the beach this summer and it's a 6-7 hour drive. I'm sure the drive to camp isn't that long, but I'm just looking for some real world tips! Im going to pick up a crate and keep her in there the whole trip, fwiw.

OMG, I don't know if I'd have had the intestinal fortitude to handle that mess! Double, triple ICK!!!

Rusty, don't waste your time at camp bouncing! There are much more fun things to be doing. Cinco's on day shift at the lagoon today, and China says she'll take night duty, but I'm sure she'd be happy to have you there to supervise.

I hope the rest of your time at camp contains only pleasant surprises, Ella!

I hope Rusty clears the trip bounce soon. Yuck on the surprise. I'm glad you were able to get things cleaned up. I hope you had a good paddle.

When we travel to NYC (a 6-hour trip) we carry Rusty's litterbox in the back of the car (SUV with the back seats down). We carry his carrier with the door propped open and his little bed inside. Usually he sits on the arm rest between Edward and me on a fleece blanket, or sleeps in his carrier. We carry his food for the trip in a small cooler, but he never eats during a trip. We line the back area with newspaper so that if he vomits all we have to do is tear off that part of the newspaper. He is a good traveler, takes excellent care of his litterbox during a trip, and spends a lot of time sleeping. There is an excellent Google doc by one of our members on traveling and camping with a diabetic cat:

Have a good trip!

Arghhhh, Ella. I don't think I could do that clean up. I'm sort of creepy crawly right now just thinking about it. I bow before you!

Rusty. You're there. No need for bounce now.
