? 7/26 Spot - Running higher, haven't seen much green lately

Hello again! It's been a few months since I've posted, and Spot has been doing fairly well. He had a minor pancreatitis flare up starting about a month and a half ago, but after a few rough weeks he's been doing very well the last couple weeks - back to being playful and active. His dose keeps going up and up and up though, with barely a green in sight. The last time he was on a dose this high was back in March when we were originally breaking through some insulin resistance. He currently has no signs of infection or illness. He had a dental about 8 months ago and vet visit with labs 2 months ago, and there is no sign that anything is wrong on that front. All signs of his most recent pancreatitis episode have been gone for about 2 weeks now, and he seems more energetic and happy... but his numbers are still higher than I like to see. I started a new pen about a month ago, and didn't notice any difference in numbers, so I don't think the insulin is bad.

I know he needs what he needs and I will keep increasing until I don't need to anymore, but it worries me that he seems to need more and more. Any thoughts from more experienced people?

Insulin is a hormone not a drug. It's not uncommon to increase and see not a lot of action, then have to keep increasing again. Pancreatitis can definitely mess with numbers. He might be seeing a touch of glucose toxicity and keeping on increasing per TR will get you to that breakthrough eventually.

My girl got up to 8.75 units, cats need however much insulin they need.

Thank you @Wendy&Neko. I appreciate your advice as always! Sometimes I just need a sanity check (and a reminder to reread the protocol). I’ll increase again tomorrow night unless he throws me a green before then.

8.75 is a lot! Wow... I feel lucky that we (so far) haven’t had to deal with a high dose condition. That can’t have been easy for either of you

Neko had two "high dose" conditions, but thankfully didn't get into the really high dose territory.

Good luck with the increase, if you need to.
