After 10 cycles at 2.00U, I upped Pumbaa's dose to a fat 2.00U this morning, even though he's been diving for the last 2 nights and I've gotten very little sleep. I'm hoping that, with this dose increase, we have a lot more blues and greens, and much less of the pinks and yellows, without his diving to unsafe greens. (From my keyboard to God's ear!)
Pumbaa's daytime numbers have been perplexing, to say the least, as his nadir has been nowhere near the +6 mark, from what I see. Yesterday his AM cycle nadir was at the PMPS stage, and he continued to drop until he hit +8 in the PM cycle. Today, I'm not quite sure if the 223 at +10.5 AM was a rise from a lower number, or a continuation of a drop before finally rising a bit at the PMPS reading. I wish I could test more, but no matter how gentle I am and even though I use Neosporin with Pain Relief, and even though I still use the rice sock at times to make the blood flow easier, and even though he gets major petting and snuggling during testing times, and even though I am now using 30 gauge lancets, he still hates it. Just as he hates his injections. Some people are very sensitive to needle pokes, and I assume the same must be true for cats.
I am very encouraged that, after two nights of diving down into the greens, he hasn't bounced above 384. I pray that his liver is now getting more used to these lower numbers, and that I will continue to see a smoothing out of the numbers, and maybe the dives will stop as well. I can only pray about the dives stopping, as they always occur at night, and I can't go on much longer getting so little sleep. (A very wise person told me that it's okay to skip a PM shot, occasionally, when you are too exhausted to watch for hypos overnight, but I really don't want to lose momentum with my little guy!)
Anyway, at least the cycle of diving on Friday nights has been broken. Now he dives every night!
Remember when I turned my life around and worked nights for two weeks back in May, to be able to test Pumbaa more regularly during his normal low numbers, and he decided to have his lowest numbers during the day? haha_smiley Contrary little bugger!
But I love him dearly, and can't imagine putting him to sleep just because he's not letting me sleep (and some people--family members-- have suggested this to me). My work is affected by this, which affects my ability to pay bills, but that is something I need to work out. If I can get him to the point where he's no longer diving, life will be so much easier.
This is a photo I took of Pumbaa today...where he doesn't look evil, as he does in most photos. He's a very loving little Juvenile Delinquent.
