7/26 Pumbaa - 2 nights of green with no huge bounce!

After 10 cycles at 2.00U, I upped Pumbaa's dose to a fat 2.00U this morning, even though he's been diving for the last 2 nights and I've gotten very little sleep. I'm hoping that, with this dose increase, we have a lot more blues and greens, and much less of the pinks and yellows, without his diving to unsafe greens. (From my keyboard to God's ear!)

Pumbaa's daytime numbers have been perplexing, to say the least, as his nadir has been nowhere near the +6 mark, from what I see. Yesterday his AM cycle nadir was at the PMPS stage, and he continued to drop until he hit +8 in the PM cycle. Today, I'm not quite sure if the 223 at +10.5 AM was a rise from a lower number, or a continuation of a drop before finally rising a bit at the PMPS reading. I wish I could test more, but no matter how gentle I am and even though I use Neosporin with Pain Relief, and even though I still use the rice sock at times to make the blood flow easier, and even though he gets major petting and snuggling during testing times, and even though I am now using 30 gauge lancets, he still hates it. Just as he hates his injections. Some people are very sensitive to needle pokes, and I assume the same must be true for cats.

I am very encouraged that, after two nights of diving down into the greens, he hasn't bounced above 384. I pray that his liver is now getting more used to these lower numbers, and that I will continue to see a smoothing out of the numbers, and maybe the dives will stop as well. I can only pray about the dives stopping, as they always occur at night, and I can't go on much longer getting so little sleep. (A very wise person told me that it's okay to skip a PM shot, occasionally, when you are too exhausted to watch for hypos overnight, but I really don't want to lose momentum with my little guy!)

Anyway, at least the cycle of diving on Friday nights has been broken. Now he dives every night!

Remember when I turned my life around and worked nights for two weeks back in May, to be able to test Pumbaa more regularly during his normal low numbers, and he decided to have his lowest numbers during the day? haha_smiley Contrary little bugger!

But I love him dearly, and can't imagine putting him to sleep just because he's not letting me sleep (and some people--family members-- have suggested this to me). My work is affected by this, which affects my ability to pay bills, but that is something I need to work out. If I can get him to the point where he's no longer diving, life will be so much easier.

This is a photo I took of Pumbaa today...where he doesn't look evil, as he does in most photos. He's a very loving little Juvenile Delinquent. :)

He still has that stare like you wonder what he's thinking. He looks kind of hyper like is mind is racing, even though he took that moment out to pose for the picture?

It does capture his personality. I like it. And the haircut? Well what can I say?

He is an intense little guy at times. "What can I get into next?" seems to be his most common thought. Hahahahaha!

But you should see him when he's sleepy and yawning. I'll never get over how adorable he is when he's yawning.

Okay, here's another one...Pumbaa not letting me work. Sitting right on top of my mouse hand, which he did yesterday, but hadn't done for quite some time. :)

Hey, Suze. I looked at your spreadsheet, and I can see how tempting it is to sacrifice yourself to get Pumbaa regulated, but I have to say that if you are admitting that it is affecting your work and that your ability to pay your bills might be next . . . well?

Pumbaa will get regulated whether you knock yourself out or not, probably, but remember this: trained First Responders put their own safety first and only fools and heroes fail to do that. Whether you turn out to be a fool or a hero isn't judged by what you did in an emergency, but by whether you succeeded (unless you die -- then you are an automatic hero, but you don't get to enjoy the ticker tape parade). If we put ourselves in harm's way to get to a victim, and we get hurt or killed, we won't be able to help anyone, and another responder will be taking time to rescue us instead of the other victims.

Just saying . . . it may not be enough to know you can skip a shot if you don't do it until it's too late. I don't want to see you regret that you didn't take your time with this. Maybe you want to slow down and let Pumbaa glide along on a regular 2 unit dose for a while and get some sleep? He's got great numbers! I'd say you're all ready a hero!

(Ok, so . . . there should be cheerleader kitties here, but I can't wait for the dang internet to pull them up. Imagine them, K? ohmygod_smile )

And is that this condo I see on the screen behind the bubble? ;-)

So that's how Pumbaa knew it was time to bounce huge for no reason? I guess Chip had the same idea, bouncing red from upper yellow?

If it wasn't tragic it would almost be comical. grr_red

Dale, first of all, excellent numbers from Max yesterday and today!!!! Look at all of those greens and blues!!!! Looks like you had a sleepless night last night, too. (((HUGS))) And talk about hero's, after everything you've been through with Max... I'm just sayin'. :)

I'm trying to cat nap (sorry for the pun) when I can, and actually went back to sleep this morning for 2 hours after the AM shot and feeding. That helped a lot.

Thank you for reminding me to take care of me...I am trying to catch up on sleep when I can, but what keeps me going is the prayer of finding that optimum dose that will keep Pumbaa from diving as he now does. The bounces I don't like, but the sudden dives are what scare me the most, and are what keep me up late at night testing him, 'cause he's so unpredictable and his nadirs are just all over the place.

If only I could teach Beck, the Border Collie, to take over the night shift and test Pumbaa. Hahahahaha!

Go figure!

Yep, Pumbaa read my SS entry yesterday where I stated my happiness that he didn't bounce big after two nights of greens. At least he had the decency to only hit 499 this morning and stayed red (barely) instead of hitting black.

Chip and Pumbaa have to stop texting each other overnight and figuring out what AMPS numbers to toss at us!

I took Max's phone away. That way he can't get message from Pumbaa or Chip, and he's staying Green!

Hang in there both of you. Bounces are good, remember? Good liver, good liver! Who's a good liver? Who's a good liver today, hmmm, wanna treat?

Those are both adorable pictures.

It's probably the pit viper eyes that gives him the *evil* look?

And notice he's missing the tiger warpaint.

Which makes him look more snakelike?

The eyes and the mouth. His mouth shape, from the front, always makes him look like he's frowning/unhappy/contemplating chewing someone's arm off. *LOL*
