Hi, everyone!

Kitty's BG this morning is 68; the highest it's been in days, but still low. I may have given her too much food before I went to bed..I don't know.

Trial day 6 is in the hooouuusssseee!

Fantastic numbers for Kitty and no insulin for 6 days now! That is just so heartwarming. :-D

Her numbers just keep getting better and better. Good job!

Kitty's pancreas is doing all of the hard work; I just feed her..and occasionally stab her ear. Heehee! :-D

I've just been eyeballing the amount of food she eats every three hours, more in the morning and evening, less during the day. I bought that scale so that I could make sure I'm feeding her the amount of calories she needs, but it looks like I've been over feeding her. I weighed out her food for today last night, and it's just not a lot of food. She's a small framed cat, and she looks overweight. I don't know if I should just keep eyeballing the amount, or if I should stick to her lean weight x 15 cal/pound/day. She weighs 9 lbs 12.5 ounces, but she should probably weigh more like 8 pounds, so it came to 120 cals/day. I figured her canned food was about 32 cals/ounce, so that's only 3.75 ounces of food a day. Does anyone else weigh out their food?

Yes, I weigh out the food for my civies every day. That is because they gulp it down in 2 minutes flat and go looking to steal Wink's food. ohmygod_smile My civie Monet's 'appetite hunger center' is broken I think. I spent a year getting him down from 16 lb 8 oz to 12 lb. He is sleeker and healthier at this weight, but boy, does it take time to get used to him having a waist before the hips and seeing this as his ideal weight.

I had an old little postal scale I repurposed for weighing the food. Works great. I can pretty much eyeball the portions now for each cat.

I weigh them once a week and adjust food intake if they gain/lose more than a few ounces a week. In my mind, a pudgy kitty is an unhealthy kitty.

I just remembered that I have a postal scale as well! I'll see if that will help..I was trying to use the new scale for the food, too. Hahaha! I couldn't find anything else to use!

Should I gradually decrease her food to the correct amount, or just start giving her the correct amount? I felt bad for not giving her bigger portions today.

Well that was odd...I was brushing on Kitty, and then all of a sudden, her head was twitching. I quickly checked her BG and it was 53, and the head twitching had stopped. I have no idea what that was about. She gets weird when she's itchy, so I don't know if it was something to do with that, or if she has some neurological problem. I don't even want to think about another health issue right now. I've been putting Neosporin on her scabby spots, and I'm sure she's licked it. Would ingesting Neosporin do that you think?

I couldn't tell you for sure, but I think most of our cats have probably licked their fair share of Neosporin without any big problems. Just make sure you're rubbing it in really well and wipe off any excess. I think Kitty should be fine...maybe she had an itch
