Good morning, LL!

Ripley is doing great today :-D
No news is good news.
Speaking of news, the vet will call me today with Ripley's urinalysis results...

Thanks for the visits last night, Mariko and Anne (love the Grumpy Cat pic!!!)

Sending vines to those in need, and many hugs to ((Kathie)).

Re: 7/25 Ripley AMPS 112

Hi Josie,
Ripley is looking great!
I'm glad she's doing good.
Hoping her urinalysis results will be all good.

Re: 7/25 Ripley AMPS 112, UTI, Q about Zeniquin AB?

Ripley tested positive for a UTI.

Her vet is giving me the choice between treating it with Clavamox (she has used this AB for the last 2 UTIs, and it doesn't have any adverse side-effects on her; but he's concerned about using the same AB too many times in a row) or Zeniquin. I'm not familiar with Zaniquin, and don't know if it would be too harsh on her already-compromised kidneys.
:?: Has anyone had any negative side effects w/Zeniquin?

He's leaving the decision up to me ~ he hasn't had experience with treating FD + CKD kitties, so he's curious about what I find out...

I'm leaning toward the familiar Clavamox, but would appreciate any insight from my fellow and trusted LLers.
Thank you!!
:-D :-D :-D :-D

Re: 7/25 Ripley AMPS 112, negative experiences w/Zeniqiuin?

Sorry to hear about the UTI. Wish I had advice about the meds, but I know nothing. Sending healing vines to Ripley, but I just have to say that for being icky...that sure is a nice amps! Have a great day, Josie!

Re: 7/25 Ripley AMPS 112, negative experiences w/Zeniqiuin?

Sorry Ripley has a UTI. I don't know anything about the ABs. I hope she gets over it quickly.

Re: 7/25 Ripley AMPS 112, negative experiences w/Zeniqiuin?

Did the vet collect the urine by using a needle into Ripley's bladder (a cystocentesis)? If so, then the vet should have done a culture and sensitivity (C & S). This will tell you which antibiotic is specific for the kind of bacteria that's causing the UTI. These are two different classes of antibiotic and will target different bacteria.

Re: 7/25 Ripley AMPS 112, +9 91

Thanks for the visits ((Kathie)), Mariko, Deborah, Carla, and Sienne :-D

Sienne: It was collected via cystocentesis, and I'll get the culture/sensitivity results by Monday.
In the meantime, Ripley will start Zeniquin. It will hopefully treat the bacteria; vet is concerned that she may not respond to the Clavamox, since it's been used for previous UTIs. If the Z. AB doesn't work, then we'll switch to one that will. Thanks so much for your help :-D

Re: 7/25 Ripley AMPS 112, +9 91

Josie, I'm amazed as you had that gut feeling Ripley has a UTI and got her in right away. So sorry she has a UTI, but you were right on top of things. I'd have to look it up, but I think Mags has been on that AB her early days of diabetes and a UTI. Give Ripples extra scritches from us and extra rocker time, too! :-D

Re: 7/25 Ripley PMPS 102

Hi, Ann :-D I'd say it was 10% intuition and 90% noticing her BGs rise slowly over that last couple of weeks, despite increasing her dose. Extra scritches and extra rocker time done and done :-D .

There's a grass fire too close for comfort; DH says we aren't in harm's way, but I'm going to worry nonetheless. There are helicopters and fire planes zooming all around us. Wind's NOT blowing in our direction, so that's good. I'm picturing over and over the things I need to grab just in case...

The pets are calm, cool, and collected (like DH). Guess I'm the only one stressing. I bet my BGs are sky high ;-) ...

Re: 7/25 Ripley PMPS 102

Wow on catching that UTI! I hope the ABs do the trick and you won't have to switch. Stay safe with those fires...I don't blame you for worrying. Prayers coming your way, as well as for those who are in the path!

Re: 7/25 Ripley PMPS 102

Hi Josie, Hope this AB turns out to be the one that clears the uti quickly with no bad side effects. Lovely numbers for Ripley today!

I would say try not to stress over the fire, but I think that is kind of impossible. Hope that it stays away from all homes!!

Jane

Hi, Amy and Jane :-D :-D Thanks for visiting.

Ripley is having a restful night; I gave Ripples her first dose of the AB (crushed, mixed w/ some squash baby food).
She lapped it all up.
Good girl.

The fire is under control. We're all good, and no structures damaged. Thank goodness.
You know it's ok when the local news finally stops reporting live (2.5 hours straight!). nailbite_smile

Now it's time for I-) .
Ni ni, LL.
