Yikes, I don't know where this number came from! Simon has been mostly greens and blues over the last few days so I thought he was adjusting well to the steroid drops. Maybe I gave a fur shot last night, although I thought it went in fine. This is the last day of the dreaded ear drops (14 days is a super long time!) so I'm hoping I will start seeing Simon go back to better numbers and more consistent numbers. Other than the higher number, Simon is happy and purring and doing great except forthe other night, he looked like he was having a little constipation so I put some Miralax in his food. Do you think that could cause his bg to rise a little?

Cleo is doing fine with the fluids. To entice her to sit still, I give her temptations. Yesterday, she was gobbling them down so fast, not even chewing, that she choked on one. When she started choking, it caused the needle to come out and the fluids started shooting all over the place. Needless to say, I am only going to give her one temptation at a time or at least cut them in half. I have never seen a cat eat so fast! Those things must have some type of addictive drug in them! Cleo is going back to the vet today to get another urine sample. They have to run a test that was already run but proved inconclusive because there wasn't enough sample. DH is going to do that for me since I will be at work all day.

Happy Monday!

Re: 7/25 Georgia's Simon AMPS 201

I swear there has to be crack cocaine in those Temptations

Hope SImon comes back down to blues and greens today and has good lb action.

Re: 7/25 Georgia's Simon AMPS 201

Yay, good-bye eardrops! I think ANYTHING can mess with their BGs

Good to hear Cleo's doing well, aside from the Temptation gobbling ;-) I think they spray Temptations
with "animal digest" (sounds nice eh?) the same concoction they use on dry food to fool the kitties into
thinking it's meat, not breakfast cereal :-D

Re: 7/25 Georgia's Simon AMPS 201

So glad to hear that today is the last day of those drops. You must be relieved! Simon did well with his numbers during the ear drop run.

Good luck with Cleo's vet visit!

Have a great day, guys!

Amy

Re: 7/25 Georgia's Simon AMPS 201

I hope Simon's tummy gets well. At least you don't have to put those drops anymore :-D

I'm glad things are going well with Cleo (besides her trying to swallow the temptation all at once  )

Have a great day.

Re: 7/25 Georgia's Simon AMPS 201

Cleo was probably jealous that Simon gets treats for pokes! She's playing catch up (albeit a little too fast). Please let her know that a kitty Heimlich is not recommended.

I'm sure you and Simon will be glad to be rid of the ear drops.

Re: 7/25 Georgia's Simon AMPS 201

Hi Georgia, and yay for the last day of steroid drops for Simon. Good luck with Cleo's Vet visit. Maggie used to love the Temptations, too! Jave a nice day.

Re: 7/25 Georgia's Simon AMPS 201

Thank heavens Simon is done after today. You can eliminate that variable from the BG's.

Wow on Cleo! That is horrible. Isn't it funny how there are certain kitties that pretty much just inhale their food? I have crunchers. They make sure to chew every little tiny piece, so does my dog.

Hope you have a great day!

Re: 7/25 Georgia's Simon AMPS 201

I was wondering today how your guys were doing.

Party time for ending them darned drops. How is his ears doing?

Re Cleo- wow, how nerve wracking. What about crushing up the temptations and giving her more crumbs so she has to work to get them.

What urine tests do they do? Urine specific gravity? I hate to say this but I tested Maverick's at home LOL. I used the salt water tank's refractometer which is the exact same thing the vet uses. I never told DH I did this. But this was how I could see that he was still concentrating urine. The vet was impressed that I could do this at home. Urine is actually easier to read than clear salt water haha. And you can buy a good quality one for $40. The thing is you have to figure out how to do your own urine catch and first thing in the morning.

Re: 7/25 Georgia's Simon AMPS 201

Hi Georgia & Simon, You must be thrilled to get rid of those ear drops. Now Simon can return to normal numbers. Sorry to hear about the accident with the fluids and Temptations! Those Temptations must really be something! I hope Cleo's vet visit went well.

Have a good evening, guys,

Ella & Rusty

Re: 7/25 Georgia's Simon AMPS 201

Hi guys .. I'm so glad to hear that simon is done with those dang ear drops! And that cleo is taking the fluids in stride .. sounds like a pretty content household!

Re: 7/25 Georgia's Simon AMPS 201 PMPS 170

Simon is slightly lower but still not as good as a few days ago. I think it might have been his tummy so hoping tomorrow is better.

Sienne, I really thought I was going to have to do kitty heimlich. I'll have to read up on it just in case!

Karrie, I can't remember what urine test they are doing. I think it has to do with the protein in her urine. Is that urine specific test? Wow on the doing it yourself urine test. You are simply amazing to even think of how to do it! My problem with Cleo is that if she even hears you coming close to the litter box, she runs out of it, so I don't think I could get a urine sample from her. Cats are like people, I guess -- some just want total privacy to pee!

Thanks everyone for your well wishes!! Makes my day!

Re: 7/25 Georgia's Simon AMPS 201 PMPS 170

Hi Georgia: glad Simon came down today. I hope he'll get back more into blue/green esp when he finishes with the steroids for his ears.

Great news on Cleo and the squids.

The test they want to run is protein:creatinine ratio to tell if she is leaking protein into her urine due to renal disease. You can't run it at home ;-) :-D

Also, when doing USG, it will be lower in a cat getting fluids as the squids dilutes the urine. If you know ahead of time that you are doing a urine test, you can plan it for the time of day that is furtherest away from when she last had fluids. That will give you a more accurate number (or you can skip squids for a day).

Re: 7/25 Georgia's Simon AMPS 201 PMPS 170

Ahhh no, it doesn't do protein. I remember them testing that on my dog to see if she was losing protein in her urine.

Hi Georgia - sorry I am so late in visiting you... I bet you are already asleep...

nice pm cycle for Simon - YAY!! That has to feel good. It is good to see the green. YAY again that this is the last day of the ear drops - and I hope he never has to have them again, Right Simon?

Poor Cleo and the temptations - she sure must like them... Makes you wonder what is in them. Eat slower little one. I am glad though that the fluids are going well. I am sure that they help her feel better. Kudos to you for doing such a great job with her. Sorry for the mishap tonight.. not fun I am sure...

have a great evening - - what is left of it anyways... :-D
