Re: 7/25 Jupiter - Tumor is malignant - hemangiosarcoma

Good Luck tmro Jamie, Cancer does suck,When my son was sick with Testicular cancer I researched so much I was on overload, be careful and pick the questions you need as Deb had said, but do find out the cm size they removed. This is so hard I know it brings tears to my eyes, I did find out you have to be forceful in your question and if something doesn't seem right say something, I had to demand better pain meds, and other things, get as much info as possible. This is a better cancer to have so there is hope. Sending out healing vines to you Dane and little Jupe

Re: 7/25 Jupiter - Tumor is malignant - hemangiosarcoma

I read through the condo and tried to compile a list of all the suggestions for questions to ask the vet. Please Please let me know if there is anything else anyone can think of that I should add to the list (or if there is anything anyone notices that I forgot to add). Its about 2:25am and Jupiters appointment with his vet is at 9am - so I am going to try to get some sleep now. I will check his condo in the morning before the appt to see if anyone has any suggestions on questions to add to the list.

Thank you everyone - for your support, advice, suggestions. I appreciate it soooo much. I will post an update tomorrow after the vet appointment. Once again, thank you all so much!

Here is the list:

*How long will this wound take to heal? How long will it need to stay covered? When will stitches be removed?

*Are the margins of the tumor clean? When the lump was removed was enough surrounding tissue taken out that there was none of the sarcoma left in him. What size cm was the mass that was removed?

*The oncologist that Jupiter is being referred to, if you had a pet with the same condition, would you go to this oncologist you are recommending? Or is there another in the area you would choose?

*Is there a board certified veterinary oncologist in the area?

*What are the next steps?

*What are the treatment options?

*Will chemotherapy be recommended or are there any other treatment options?

*Is this the skin form of hemangiosarcoma? Does it have the potential to ever be completely cured?

*What other health effects should we expect to see? Is the hemangiosarcoma going to cause him any symptoms right now? In the future?

*Is there anything we should be watching out for?

*What is the survival rate if the cancer has not spread yet? What is the survival rate if the cancer has spread (metastized) already?

*Is hemangiosarcoma hereditary? Should I get Jupiters sister tested? Could this be detected in bloodwork?

*Could you email or make a copy of the test results for me? (including bloodwork, biopsy, xray, etc) I would like to have these all in my possession and I am also going to get his previous medical records from old vet. I will also be taking all of these records and results to the oncologist.

*Are there any internet sources that you would recommend? I would like to read up and become informed.

Re: 7/25 Jupiter - Tumor is malignant - hemangiosarcoma

I think it's an amazing list of questions, Jamie. Print it out if you can, and write in the answers as she gives them to you.

I will be praying for you, Dane and Jupiter tonight.

Hugs,
Carl

Re: 7/25 Jupiter... Tumor-hemangiosarcoma..list of ?'s for v

(((Jamie))),

I'm so sorry to hear about Jupiter, no one wants to hear that diagnosis, but as everyone else has said, knowledge is power. This is the beginning of a new chapter that will be hopefully short because your vet was able to remove all the tumor & surrounding skin.

If you can keep a notebook of Jupiter's records with sections for questions, lab results, conversations, articles, etc. that may help with some of the overwhelm. You'd have all your information at your fingertips.

Sending healing vines to Jupiter & you - lots of support & hugs

Re: 7/25 Jupiter... Tumor-hemangiosarcoma..list of ?'s for v

Looks like you have all the questions. You may have more as you get answers, but this is great to go in with.

Good luck! And let us know what happens.

Re: 7/25 Jupiter... Tumor-hemangiosarcoma..list of ?'s for v

So many hugs coming your way. We are thinking of you and Jupiter!

Re: 7/25 Jupiter... Tumor-hemangiosarcoma..back from vet

Hi everyone just wanted to give you all a quick update. We are back now from the vet. They did an xray and vet did not see anything in the lungs. We asked lots of questions and took notes. She is not familiar with hemangiosarcoma so couldnt answer many of the questions but did answer any that she could. She is going to send the oncologist a referral in a few hours (she is on call and very busy today so she said it would take a little while but she will do it today). She put a new bandage on Jupes leg.... a much bigger one(wraps the whole way up his entire leg) this time - with hopes it will stay on for little while. We have to go back next week to have the stitches removed.

I will post a better update in a little while, I am going to eat, and do a few other things then I will make a post explaining everything we talked about today - but most questions will have to be answered by the oncologist.

I feel like todays appointment went well and the vet was very nice and patient while I asked questions and tried to answer them to the best of her ability.

Just wanted to let you all know we are home now though and will post another update in a little while.

Thank you all so much for your support, generosity, love, & advice. I cant ever thank you all enough!

Re: 7/25 Jupiter... Tumor-hemangiosarcoma..back from vet

Its encouraging nothing was seen in the lungs.

Re: 7/25 Jupiter... Tumor-hemangiosarcoma..back from vet

Hi Jamie. Thank you for the updates. So glad this vet took the time listen to your questions and offer answers where she could. Good news that his lungs were clear. We have you all in our Prayers, Jamie.

Re: 7/25 Jupiter... Tumor-hemangiosarcoma..back from vet

This sounds like a very good update. Our prayers continue for more and more good news.

Re: 7/25 Jupiter... Tumor-hemangiosarcoma..back from vet

Very good news about the lungs!!! :-D :-D :-D Big hugs to you, Dane and Jupie.

Re: 7/25 Jupiter... Tumor-hemangiosarcoma..back from vet

Great update! Sending healing and positive results vines for Jupe, calming and positive out look vines for you!

Re: 7/25 Jupiter... Tumor-hemangiosarcoma..back from vet

That's a positive update from your vet visit. No spots on the lungs is good!

Now Jupe, leave your big new bandage alone please. Or I'll have to come down there and give you a good tongue lashing in person!

Re: 7/25 Jupiter... Tumor-hemangiosarcoma..back from vet

Great report, Jamie! I'm glad she was more engaged today and helpful. I am sorry you have to deal with the bandage another week. It's great news that his lungs were clear. Did she say if she got clean margins around the tumor?

Your list of questions is great and I would encourage you to take the applicable ones to the specialist.

Sending you a ton more prayers so you can sleep. Baby steps, Jamie. Try not to let your mind imagine scenarios that may never occur. Focus on right now. We are all your family and will continue to give you emotional support.

How is the bite wound on you? Please keep an eye on it for red streaks, etc. cats mouths have alot of bacteria and bites tend to close quickly trapping the bacteria inside. If you start seeing swelling, redness, etc, you need to get to the ER.

We are all sending a mass of prayers for you, Dane, and Jupe.

Re: 7/25 Jupiter... Tumor-hemangiosarcoma..back from vet

Good news Jamie. I'm glad the vet answered your questions this time, to the best of her ability. Hugs.

Re: 7/25 Jupiter... Tumor-hemangiosarcoma..back from vet

For bites and scratches at the rescue we used equal parts of betadine ointment and granulated sugar. Clean area with a saline solution and apply betadine/sugar and put a band aid over it. Works great.

Re: 7/25 Jupiter... Tumor-hemangiosarcoma..back from vet

I'm sorry Jamie about Jupiter's diagnosis. I guess the only thing you can do is stay hopeful - you just never know. I'll be praying hard they got everything and that it didn't spread anywhere.

Re: 7/25 Jupiter... Tumor-hemangiosarcoma..back from vet

Re: 7/25 Jupiter... Tumor-hemangiosarcoma..back from vet

Thank you all for the good thoughts, prayers, and vines for Jupiter. I appreciate it so much.

I am so sorry I havent posted an update yet about todays appointment.

I just cant seem to get rid of this awful cold or whatever it is. Everytime I feel better, it just comes back again! I am all congested, sore throat, cough, headache, & fever. I am so tired too. My kidney pain has been very severe recently and I am taking more pain meds then normal so at times I have a really hard time making any sense at all. (This post alone took me a very long time to type because I kept going over and over it to make sure it all made sense and that I said everything correctly)

I will post in a new condo tomorrow a more detailed update about todays appointment.

Jupiters appy is not very good today. I thought it might be the warm weather, and his appy usually gets a little better at night when it cools off, but tonight - his appy is still very poor. I have tried several flavors of food, meow mix wet food cups, fancy feast appetizers. He will take a few licks but thats about it. Gonna have to try some friskies shreds in a bit. Just hoping he will eat something, anything at all. My poor sweet baby boy, I am sure he just isnt feeling great right now -- I wish he could understand that not eating will probably only make him feel worse. I am going to try to stay up a bit and offer him his favorite foods every hour. Even if he just takes a few licks at a time as long as I offer food frequently, atleast he will be getting a little bit in him.

I wanted to share this story because it made me so happy:
Last night when I tried falling asleep Jupiter came up and laid next to me so I pet him until I fell asleep... and everytime I would fall asleep he would let out a soft meow, and it would wake me up so I would pet him again...and would fall asleep petting him. This went on for quite a bit before he let me sleep. I cant complain though because everytime I woke up to his sweet cute meow, I was so happy.

I always sleep better with a kitty snuggled in close to me too. Hope you can catch some sleep tonight. You need the rest to help you get over that cold.

Take care of yourself Jamie.

Re: 7/25 & 7/26 Jupiter...Tumor-hemangiosarcoma- poor appy t

   I love Jupe so much! He just made me smile and laugh once again! I was getting ready to lay down and thankfully I went to adjust my pillows first - because they felt warm... I was so confused!!!!! Jupiter is laying in between all the pillows!!!! Im so glad I didnt lay down and squish him! I was like "JUPE! you silly boy!!!! I almost squeeeshed you!!! What are you doing there!!!!" He just gave me a funny look :-D

I cant move him cause he just looks so comfy. Guess I will have to steal Dane's pillows for now. Neither of us are going to bed so its okay for now :-D :-D

its something little and probably seems silly that it made me laugh and smile a bunch - but it really did cheer up my night!!!
