I have to say that I was happy to see a sunny yellow this morning. I hope she continues to go in the right direction today:)
We're off for a vetty visit to check out her mouth, again, and I really hope all the probing doesn't make it worse. She seems to be eating fine, is still playing but is sleeping more than usual. That could also be attributed to her super high numbers the last few days though.
My parents are coming by tonight to do their first injection and bg test . They've been practicing giving injections on a balloon filled with sand . I think my mom is nervous she will hurt her so it will be good for her to see that Ella doesn't feel any pain during the injections. I have a question regarding pulling doses from the vile. I usually pull more than what I need and then get the air bubbles out. Greg was on the Lantus site and it says that you can pull and push the insulin out of the syringe while the needle is still in the vial to extract bubbles. Is this true? I thought you could compromise the bottle by doing that. Thoughts?

Nice yellow, almost blue! My vet told me the same thing but we don't do it because I believe it can compromise the insulin. You definitely don't want to do it with a pen, but I would think it would be better to not do it in a vial as well. How sweet on your mom. I'm sure it will be better once she sees how Ella acts. Have a great day!

Re: 7/24 Ella AMPS 201

My vet said you could do it too, so I did with my first cartridge, which conked out about half way through  I don't think it was coincidence as I never had that problem again after I stopped injecting back. I would think that injecting back in would be similar to giving the insulin a little shake in the way that it stirs up the contents.

Your parents are so cute

Morning! I agree with the others - I would not inject back into the bottle, I think it will compromise the contents. Certainly not with the pens. It is so great that your parents are helping out while you are gone. Love the balloon filled with sand practice - good for her! She will see how easy it can be, that the kitties really don't mind, once she sees it for real. It will relax her some. perhaps let her try a for real injection when they come tonight? It might out her at ease if you are there for the first one. Good luck! and kudos to your parents! :-D :-D

Very nice start for Ella today too. Surf well little one. Good luck to with the vetty visit - I hope that goes well.

Happy surfing, Ella! You know it's the most fun on pretty blue water - or even with a hint of green, perchance?
Hope your day is great, Tamara! Glad to read your parents pitch in.

Back from the vetty and after all that stress she managed to stay at the same number. Wohoo! The vet had a tough time investigating her mouth as she chattered her jaw with every poke. Her gums are really sensitive so we booked a dental the week after we return from holidays. They took some blood and we'll be getting the results tomorrow.

Thanks for all visits and vetty vines:)

Vetty visit and still NICE numbers?! Ella - you rock!

I know you'll be glad when the dental is done, hope it gives you a clear picture of what's going on in her mouth.

Kudos to Mom and Dad for helping take care of Ella and for practicing to try to get it just right! I know they'll do great!! My Daddy l-o-v-e-d Hershey. He was VERY sick when we moved back to this house. (He died less than 6 wks later.) But, he came over to check on Hershey and make sure the move hadn't been too traumatic for him. I KNOW if he was still alive I could count on him to 'fill in' for us when we needed help. BIG HUGS to your parents!!!

Hope y'all have a wonderful evening -

Libby (& Hershey, too!)

Re: 7/24 Ella PMPS 228 +2=331

Hi everyone,

A sincere thanks for all of your visits and well wishes to the parentals who are taking over the duties while we're away. Libby, it's really sweet that your dad cared so much for Hershey and came to visit him to ensure a smooth transition, even though he was ill. That's true love:)

I'm exhausted from tonight's training. My mom got the hang of the glucose testing as she does it on herself but was totally freaked out by the injection as she's a diet controlled diabetic. It got to the point that I shot Ella as time was ticking and she needed her juice! After an hour or so, we practiced putting empty needles into Ella's scruff so she could get a sense of what it felt like. Ella was such a good sport and by the end of it all my mom felt much more comfortable with the whole procedure. She did find it very tricky to get the air bubbles out. I gave her a magnifying glass but it took her forever to extract those buggers out. She's going to have to start atleast 20 min before shot time to get the bubbles sorted out. I'm going to go through the syringes and pick out the most perfect ones so she will have an easier time.

Of course Ella jumped when I gave her the shot but I didn't feel a wet spot or smell any insulin. Her bg, however, has soared from ps to +1 so this may be an epic bounce coupled with a fur shot which would be unfortunate. Anyhoo, I think I'm gonna visit a few condos and then head off to bed.
