Hello,
Long time no post. I've been back and forth from Washington to Oregon a lot this last month, so Karo hadn't started his insulin yet, I'd rather be at home and not somewhere else with him when/if he starts.

Karo was diagnosed with diabetes 6/13 @ 479 BG. That day I started weening him off dry food and within a week he was on just wet food. (FF and Friskies pates)
On 6/18 I got my Relion Prime in the mail and Alphatrak 2.
I just used the Alphatrak 2 for the first week, and a couple of days both of the meters.

All BG tests are before his breakfast between 7am-9am.
6/18 297 AT2
6/19 313
6/20 not noted
6/21 140-160 (at the vet, theirs and my alphatrak2)
6/22 172
6/23 147
6/24 101
6/25 129 AT2 193 RP (Relion Prime)
6/26 130 AT2 90 RP

the past week with RP:
7/18 92
7/19 88
7/20 89
7/21 86
7/22 85
7/23 76
7/24 71

Karo has lost a pound since his diet change, and is much more active and awake during the day and back to his old self. I'm wondering if he's even needing to start insulin at this point? I've been trying to bring down his weight and been watching his BG closely still, but he's stabilized around 70-90 BG on the Relion Prime, which would be the higher "healthy" BG I believe.

Thank you for your time. :)

Looks like the diet change is doing wonders. :D I would try going another week and see if he still gives you those normal numbers, under 100. Maybe toss in a couple of tests before dinner too.

If Karo can go another week in normal numbers, I think you are safe to not start insulin. But at that point he would be a diet controlled diabetic, so those food changes you've made would be for the rest of his life. And I would keep doing the occasional spot check, keep him off steroids if you can.
