Monday, 3:00 a.m. Polly beat me to the bathroom expecting a poke and treat. No poke (fur shot earlier), but she ate a treat. All well.

Monday, 5:15 a.m. Polly lethargic. Wouldn't eat. Lip licking, nausea. Hurked hairball. More liquid vomit. Finally assist fed a little. BCS of 5U instead of the 7U. Then she threw up again.

To the vet.

Weight gain...about 1/4 pound
High WBC
Fever (103.5)
Low Potassium
Dehydrated.

IV fluids and ab.

My most wonderful vet stayed the night with her (and a snake bit dog) for more fluids and AB.

Fever broke.

Blood sample sent to MSU for acro testing. My vet talked with endrocrinologist at MSU. Several suggestions including an insulin change. Everything here waits for the acro results and Polly's complete recovery and return to stable food/shot schedule.

I love my vets. They don't know everything but they're both motivated to "I'll find out." Not bad for small town vet in the middle of nowhere. How lucky I am.

I am glad Polly is back home. :YMHUG: sending lots of feel better vines.

I am curious what the suggestion is for insulin change. Some higher dose cats go on Levemir as Lantus can sting at higher doses. But it's an ECID thing as we've had some kitties on 25 or 39 U of Lantus with no issues. Did you get the IAA test done too?

MSU suggested just testing for acro as that was more common; if that comes back negative, they'll run the IAA. And the endocrinologist suggested a switch to vetsulin. Claimed they'd had success with that with cats even though it's most commonly thought to work best for dogs. I mentioned Levemir as a more likely possibility. Now, though, one step at a time. Awaiting the results and getting Polly back on track before even thinking about any changes.

My vet looked at me and said, "I'm guessing you'll do lots of research before deciding to consider any change." And he gave me that silly little smile indicating he knows I won't do anything without ample information!

Neko was on Vetsulin/Caninsulin before Lantus. Going there would be a step backwards cause it usually has a shorter duration. Neko was miserable on it.

Sounds like you have a great and understanding vet.
