Hello LL!

7/9 Condo

Sorry we've been MIA. We lost DH's grandma the same day I had the kidney stones removed. It's been along two weeks since. I've missed reading the condo's and hearing how everyone is doing.

Munchkin is doing really well. Our available options at the time were to board Munchkin, so she could get her shots or stop insulin, keep her at home with my mom & re-valuate our situation when DH came home for a couple days and could test and check her. I didn't trust her to get insulin and not be tested, especially after the previous week she had been having. Neither option was ideal, but we had to go with the best for us. We were surprised to find her in the 50's when DH came home, so we stuck with keeping her off for the rest of the time we'd be gone. She's still holding in 50-60 range and she seems happy and healthy. So, at this point, I'm not real sure what else to do but follow her lead.

I'll be slowly working my way through condo's and catching up. I know some congratulations are in order!

It's not the way I'd advise an OTJ trial but Munchkin seems to have an idea that was all her own!

Just so you stay on top of things, I'd get your usual AM/PMBG tests but I'd also get some spot checks -- one each cycle -- just the way you did today. The instructions for a trial are as follows:
  • Test at your normal AMPS and PMPS times. Feed multiple small meals throughout the day as much as possible (small meals are less likely to overwhelm a newly functioning pancreas).
  • If he is green at your normal test times, no need to test further until the next "PS" time, just feed small meals and go about your day. If she is blue, feed a small meal and test again after about 3 hours. If his number is lower 3-4 hours after a meal, then his pancreas is working!

Sometimes the trial doesn't work the first time and we have to give a little more support in the form of resuming insulin. It's not the end of the world if that happens, we just give him the support he needs. Our goal is a strong remission and it's better to take our time to get that than to rush into remission just to have it fail later on.
