Sneezed her head off again this morning, her one eye has been tearing too (no gunk)... I'm so tired of this... We've been to the vet twice already and discussed this, I don't have the money and time to do it again... especially the time, I'm already getting raked over the coals at work. I don't want her pumped full of A/B either... but it's hard to hear sneezing fits. She still is basically not bothered by it... So, I guess we ride it out, hope the dental helps since it really seems like eating anything triggers it. I might try to give her an antihistamine again tonight, though I'm worried it will dry her out more and cause more bleeding - especially since the A/C has to go on today and probably stay on till Sunday (she seems to do better with the A/C off).

She ate only about 1 Tbsp FF breakfast. She had a couple tsp or more of FF snack at +8 as well.

I'm off to get ready for work... I can't take this lack of sleep much longer - I'm really cranky today.

Re: 7/23 Kasha AMPS 104

Krys, so sorry to hear the Kasha is still not feeling 100%, but am hoping, along with you that the dental will help with her issues. I know you feel helpless, but you are doing all that you can do to make Kasha feel comfortable.
Sorry you are feeling cranky...I know the feeling, and when I feel that way, I really need to get myself out of the funk because it just isn't helpful to be like that where I work at (I work with individuals with intellectual disabilities and being on the positive side is a must). Don't know if you drink coffee, but maybe a nice cup of iced joe may be helpful..that and a mantra of "It's a beautiful day and I am so lucky to be alive" type thing, lol

BTW...measuring a .05u isn't very hard..it's actually a tiny drop. I draw up about 1u of insulin and push the plunger until it gets to the very first line..there is a drop of insulin left in the syringe. It takes practice, but it is do-able!

I hope you have a wonderful day. Try to take the cranky out of it!!!!

Re: 7/23 Kasha AMPS 104

how frustrating, I wonder what is causing all this sneezing. Must be an allergy, we need a detective on the case!
Her bg's have been great though.

Re: 7/23 Kasha AMPS 104

Hi Krys,
I'm sorry to hear Kasha is still not feeling well enough. You mentioned dental - is that coming up soon. I know that a dental made a big difference in Maggie eating and feeling better. She had an infected tooth. I think a nice strong cup of coffee would help or maybe get a cappucino with a lot of froth if you're not that big into coffee. I hope work goes better today. it sounds like a stressful job.

Re: 7/23 Kasha AMPS 104

Well, that is a nice AMPS for Kasha this morning...and it IS Friday...
Sending a hug for you in case you need one....hope your day goes well.... :YMHUG:

Re: 7/23 Kasha AMPS 104, 62 @ 1.75

Hi - thanks everyone...

I'm exhausted today. Coffee makes me anxious and jittery, and I already have my job to do that for me...

I shut Kasha in the bathroom with me while I took a shower this morning... She was patient for a little while, then she started meowing and pawing at the door and generally not settling down... I made her wait till I was done with my shower, but rather than keep her in there any longer, I let her out because I was worried that she needed her LB. Well, I continued getting ready (which was tougher with the steamy bathroom - lotion doesn't dry then!) and she came into the kitchen where she can look into the bathroom and she was meowing... I knew she wanted food so I put out the rest of the day's food and she was eating... I finished getting ready and tested her. 62 @ 1.75... Duh - and that was after food... I don't know why I don't listen to her when she tries to tell me things like this - I bet she was dropping while she was locked in the bathroom and just wanted to get to some food...

Poor girl... Smarter than her mama bean - how frustrating for her!

Thanks for the info on your .05 drop, Deb... I currently measure Kasha's .1u by measuring so the plunger pretty much touches the 0 line when you look at it head on - but if you tilt it sideways from other angles there is just the tiniest bit of light before the line... and the half unit line is actually below the black rubber part of the plunger, if that makes any sense... I need all these ways to check when I measure because I'm soooo tired I don't want to screw it up! I'm curious as to what would happen if I dropped her dose just a little more - to the 0 line proper. I've practiced with water drops to see how much insulin that would be.

Where I work, the crankiness might just make some people leave me alone! That's not necessarily a bad thing...

11 days till her scheduled dental.

Re: 7/23 Kasha AMPS 104, 62 @ 1.75

I don't know if you should try to whittle the dose down any further quite yet. If you look back over the last 7 days, you still have some AMPS numbers that are over 120. That said, see what Kasha does today. If she wants a reduction, then it makes sense to see if you can shoot a fat 0.

Re: 7/23 Kasha AMPS 104, 62 @ 1.75

I completely relate to the cranky stuff. We earn it thought & hopefully everyone will give you a wide birth at work today. You do such a wonderful job with Kasha - she is very lucky to have you Mamma bean. Take care.

PS - could the sneezing just be that? sneezing to clear dust, whatever?? Hope Kasha's numbers go well.

I'm basically already shooting a fat 0...

Krys, had to laugh at your description of your dosing the "correct" dose just right. Funny how you have to tilt the syringe, look at it in this light, close one eye and turn around 3 times before it's just the right amount, lololololol

When Spot was at Camp Dian, I took an old syringe and used that as a visual for Dian to dose. When she looked at it, she said...hummm...your .2 is my .1. Just a side note in case anyone is going to use a pet sitter in the future. Better to have a visual prop or Spot would have been getting more insulin!

Hey - how did you know I closed one eye? I didn't even mention that part!!!! LOL!!!

Re: 7/23 Kasha AMPS 104, 62 @ 1.75

Hey Krys--You have been doing a great job with Kasha--Hope the sneezies go away Kasha feels better..
Krys, I always look sideways, head on, and check 60 times to be sure the dose is right after 2+yrs!!! Moonie is on a skinny 0.75, and it's also difficult to measure. Moonie was on those mini doses when we first started..It is tough, but doable.
As far as feeling crummy, I have my DH's family here, cats are miserable, hiding & complaining, & Moonie's numbers are up--Talk about feeling crummy @-) @-) @-) We are all crowded, no one cares about my cats, and I cant wait till they leave @-)
--Try to cheer up, rest & take good care of your self & Kasha, and just think about how much better she is than when you first came here--Sending you Hugs! :YMHUG: :YMHUG: :YMHUG:

Thanks Roni... I'll be better when I get to be away from work for the weekend... I'm really not liking my job right now --- I just got a ton of pressure put on me to solve an issue (supposedly) and when I did resolve it, I got a ton of pressure about why I didn't ask every other person what they thought of my solution... So, I fixed it the only way it could be fixed... it was a minor issue and will give people what they want... but still I get beat on...

Re: 7/23 Kasha AMPS 104, 62 @ 1.75

Hi Krys,
Kasha's bg's are looking so good in spite of not feeling good. It won't be long now til you know what! Maggie is wondering how Blue is feeling, as his Bean is still not caught up with condos.

Re: 7/23 Kasha AMPS 104, 62 @ 1.75

Blue is doing well... We had a strange episode where he was following Kasha around, making her hiss and staring at her... then he started crying mournfully and walked away to lie down... still crying... But when I went to pet him, he looked completely fine and just started purring as usual... He's been a little more vocal lately - I don't know what that's about... but he hasn't seemed upset or anything... he was hop-running yesterday cuz he follows me around - very cute!

I'm really wondering if that 122 is due to something like her dropping lower after I left - sort of a mini-bounce... hard to say, it's not really that high given meter variance and all that. Also, a very large amount of food was eaten today - when I saw that she'd dropped 42 pts in the first 1.75 hours, I made sure to leave out a little extra and for the most part, everything was eaten up.

I gave her a 1/4 tab of cyproheptadine tonight... since it is an antihistamine and also used to treat feline asthma, I had asked my vet about trying it and she said it was worth a try if I wanted. I just want to see if it affects her sneezes... I've just put off trying any more antihistamines since the chlor-trimeton may or may not have dried her out a bit too much.

She was kind of snotty today... More sneezes... still ate about 1 2/3 Tbsp FF dinner... not bad.

I had an absolutely rotten day at work... I have nothing nice to say about my job, except that for the most part, the people I work with in Cleveland are great. And there is one person in another city who's great too... As for the rest of them... better I say nothing, I guess. I'll just pretend I love it when people throw me under the bus...

Um, yeah... cyproheptadine...

I got home after being out running some errands (frozen lemon custard - need I say more?) and noticed that all of first dinner was already gone... Kasha was hungry... Ok... put out dinner #2... I was looking at Carolyn and Latte's slideshows (and crying, of course) when I noticed that Kasha was in her papasan chair looking kind of funny.... she got up and slowly went down the pet steps to drink water... I started to panic. Then she started eating again and I realized... Oh yeah - I gave her 1/4 tab cypro... first time she's ever had it and... maybe the last unless I need to perk up her appetite. Because Big Cat never really reacted to it, I didn't take it seriously when the vet said 1/4 tab hopefully wouldn't make her dopey... But... she's a little dopey... Dopey and hungry - she just ate a TON of food and moved... slowly... back to her papasan...

Ugh.

Back to chlor-trimeton next time I give an antihistamine!
