Hey there LL kitties and beans!

Thought is was time for a Gobbles WCR and report his labs (taken 7/12/13). Sorry it is a little lengthy...

All 8 of his P's are in place, with the additional P's being PATHETIC , PITA and PAPER (TP). He has been quite a handful these past few weeks

His BG, 1.5 hours after eating today, was 53. He actually wasn't due for a BG reading today (I'm testing every 3rd day now as he's been OTJ for a little over 2 months) but was acting like he wanted fed (eats AT LEAST 8 times a day--mini meals) and wouldn't eat--just stood there looking stupid. So I got out his testing equipment and he rubbed up against the Gluco-Monster. What a brat! I did the usual testing routine, complete with the silly "scritchie, scritchie, scritchie; mommy is a *****ie" song and stuck him in his left ear  Then he ate something.

And then there's the problem with him and his cash crop: Organic, mean green catnip that he gets into every day (well, I go pick it for him or take him for a walk to the patch). Pictures of before and after attached...he's a total whack job when he gets a few bites of it...

His average BG for the past 30 days is 59. He tested 88 at the vet's last week when I tested him in the waiting room. I really thought he would of tested higher because he was so scared, he was shaking. The lab result shows glucose at 147--not a shocker as he totally freaked out when the tech took him in the back to draw blood (from his neck!!); his glucose has always read over 100, all the way back to 2009. (My vet uses Antech Diagnostics)

The last time he had bloodwork (4/3/13), the readings that were out of range is in red, below and new lab readings (7/12/13) corresponding, in blue, below:

ALT (RANGE 10-100) 146 - 63
GLUCOSE (RANGE 64-170) 414- 147
CHOLESTEROL (RANGE 75-220) 244 - 224
TRIGLYCERIDES (RANGE 25-160) 497 - 172

So really, only his cholesterol is a little out of range (4 points) and triglycerides (12). I'm so happy! He is doing so well.

Re: 7/23 Needy Nipped Up Gobbles BG 53 & Lab Results

Hi Kat, love your WCR on Gobbles. The pic of him post nipping is too funny. I guess that is one of his toys on top of him! Great numbers, and that number is not bad for Vetty stress. That's amazing how he misses the routine of being tested. He's a very lucky kitty and not spoiled at all, nah, not at all  .

Re: 7/23 Needy Nipped Up Gobbles BG 53 & Lab Results

Looking good there!

Maybe add a bit more protein and cut back a smidge on fat to help the cholesterol.

Love the nip pictures!

How is Gobbles doing on his weight? I know you were saying you were keeping a close eye on it.

Wink had his weekly BG test today too, a nice 72.

He did ask me if the "post-nip" picture made him look fat. Frankly it does. He was up to 13.8 a few weeks ago, which is a bit chunky for him, but now he's down to 13.2 (a few days ago). He was 13.47 at the vet about a week ago. I think that anything over 13.2 is a little high for him, so I really am keeping an eye on him. I don't want to change his food so am trying to limit serving sizes; he eats at least 7 or 8 times a day, but usually only like 1 or 2 teaspoons at a time. I am going to try to get him (well, all 3 of the cats) down to just 4 feedings a day. He really doesn't eat that much--maybe I should curtail the nip because it makes him very lazy.... Glad to hear Wink had a lovely 72

Re: 7/23 Needy Nipped Up Gobbles BG 53 & Lab Results

Wink is on a bit of a diet now too. He got up to 10.8! Trying to get him back down to 10.2. He seems better closer to the 10 pound range.

I'm ahead of you on the feeding 4 times a day. Been doing that for 5 months now with all my kitties. Wink is the slow eater though. He takes about 10-15 minutes to eat the same amount of food as the others. They inhale theirs in under 2 minutes and go looking for more. I have to guard his food or put him in a room with the door closed. ohmygod_smile

Great report on Gobbles!  Love the stoned out cat pics. :-D

I'd love to lower the number of feedings as well. We went to an echocardiogram appointment where I had to fill in a questionnaire and one was on number of meals a day. I was embarrassed to have to admit to 9.

Taz loves his Nip, he had to go to detox, he got a 1082 for not sharing.

Any suggestions on what brand/flavor of food? He currently eats mostly FF chunky chicken, chunky turkey and turkey & giblets pate, and Friskies SD Whitefish and SD Turkey & Giblets....and occasionally, the regular Friskies Whitefish and Turkey & Giblets pates....and a few pieces of YAZCCF for treats....

Hi, Kat, I don't have any fuds suggestions ~ just want to stop by and say hi! It's nice to see an update on sweetie-pie Gobbles. So glad he's doing well! Take care!
:YMHUG:

Do you add water to his food? You may want to add more than what you do, this will help fill him up. I add a full can of water to one can of food.

Awwww......Gobbles is so funny! I take it he likes messin' with the toilet paper? Penelope does that so I have to keep it on the back of the toilet. If I have it on the roll, she uses it as a scratching post.

I love Gobbles' post-nip pic. haha - he is worn out! What a sweet boy.

Glad to see his tests came back good!

Hi Kat,

Great report on Gobbles! Glad to hear he is still doing so well. Love the pictures, I don't think he looks fat, just satisfied!

What an awesome Gobs update!

Meanwhile, Gobbles is standing there thinking "well, Mom, don't just stand there looking stooopid! Poke my ear already!!!"

I did the usual testing routine, complete with the silly "scritchie, scritchie, scritchie; mommy is a *****ie" song and stuck him in his left ear
   Thanks Kat.... now I'm cleaning the beer mist I just spit on my monitor...

I was thinking along the lines of the note on Cat Info (here, about 1/3 down the page) about replacing up to 1/6 of the canned food with plain meat/poultry.

Ex. If you were feeding 5 oz of cat food, add 1 oz of plain, cooked meat/poultry to it, stir well, pull out 1 oz of the mix to refrigerate/freeze for later, and feed the rest.

When you up the protein content, the resulting proportions are less tilted towards the fat and more to the protein. You might need to remove some of the mix so the portion size is appropriate.

Deb,
That was awesome! Glad I'd finished my coffee ;-)
How did she memorize the words is what I'm wondering

Hi guys .. love this report on gobbles! So glad he is doing so well and enjoying life at the falls .. what a lucky little guy to have you as his momma!

Thanks so much  I noticed, while looking at Dr. Lisa's list, that the Special Diet Friskies are quite high in fat--I'm going to do as you've suggested; he likes any meat and for starters I'll try chicken for a while.... I really think he'll enjoy the texture differences!

Kat, I don't think I know the complete lyrics to that song. What's the tune?...

Bounce cat to this tune:

Scritchie, scritchie, scritchie
Mommy is a *****ie
Scritchie
Scritchie

(and repeat several times until you get smacked in the face with open claws)

Hi Kat,

Great to hear that Gobby is doing so well. I laughed out loud at your song and had to go tell my housemate. She didn't get it at all - she said "that's terrible" and made a shocked face. I don't think she knows what it feels like to stab you cat and make them bleed so frequently! I might be singing it to Angie tonight. :-D
