We have increased Radar's dose yet again and although I'm hopeful that this time we will see some greens.... I'm beginning to wonder if there is something else going on with him. Could someone please look at our spreadsheet and tell me what you see.
 
Cats need as much insulin as they need. Try not to focus on the number of units, but rather what the dose is doing for his BG numbers. If you aren't seeing green on a dose, I wouldn't hold it any longer than 8 cycles. Now that you are at 5.0 units, you can do increases by 0.5 unit at a time, perhaps 0.25 units if you are seeing green.

When was the last time Radar went to vetty for a checkup, blood work, and a look inside his mouth? How are his 5 P's? Eating well?

Jan, Bubba was 5.25 units until he started earning reductions. Try not to get married to a dose but, rather see what that dose does bringing down numbers and increasing within the required amount of time on TR when you aren't seeing green. You don't want him to get stuck .

Thanks to all of you for looking at Radar's spreadsheet and offering your experience and wisdom. :bighug: I think that my tendency to hold a dose is because I've been doing SLGS for most of the time we've been on Lantus and I just haven't been able to wrap my little brain around increasing after only 4 days. I will try to do a better job of not holding too long so we can find the amount of insulin that he needs to bring those numbers down.

This is great information that has really helped me. thanks. :) Radar has not had a vet check and bloodwork in a year so I'm thinking I need to get him in soon. It was a bad tooth that took him out of remission last time and I don't want that situation to keep him from making it to good healing greens.
