the wrap on jupes foot is sliding down. I think if it falls down anymore that area will be exposed. The vet wanted it to be kept wrapped because there is a gap there. she said she couldnt stretch the skin far enough to stitch it closed the whole way so it needs to be wrapped

called the vet and they had the on call vet call me back. he said to try putting some self adhesive tape on it and just to keep it on tonight and then call the vet first thing in the morning. he said if jupes vet wont see him, they will squeeze him in. (too bad its an hour drive away! - but if Jupiters vet cant squeeze him in tomorrow we will take him to the other place because I worry about it getting infected)

we went and bought some "tender tape" sticks to itself not to skin or hair. we wrapped that around the old wrap and wrapped it higher so that even if the old wrap keeps sliding down atleast where he had the bump removed will not be exposed.

we are going to call first thing in the morning and hoping his vet will see him.

On a positive note: Jupiter is eating some (maybe not as much as he should be but eating a decent amount) and he has been out and about all day with no hiding. :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D

It sounds like you managed to keep the bandage in place. Good job!

And great news re. Jupe eating.

When Neko had a foot wrap (pulled toenail) we had issues with it falling off too. Good idea on the tape and getting the vet to show you how to re-wrap if needed.

Such great news that he's out and about today and eating! :-D :-D

Jupiters vet is only 15 mins away so I am hoping they can see them. If not, the other vet, is an hour away.

I am going to ask about them showing me how to wrap it though just incase. Thanks for the suggestion.

Thank you all for the visits!!

Hi Jamie,
I am so glad Jupiter is eating and not hiding.
Really great news!!!!

I hope your vet will have time to fix his bandage tomorrow, but it's great you have a backup vet!

Re: 7/21 Jupiter PMBG/78 wrap falling off his foot

Well unfortunately I wasnt paying attention..... Dane noticed Juptier was literally chewing on the wrapping on his foot. The wrapping I just put on... I put it on over his old wrapping just to help keep it from sliding down and exposing the area where he just had surgery.

Well I took off the old wrapping because he chewed it up pretty well... And I could see a few stitches sticking out... I tried to pull the old wrapping up over the stitches... dont know how well that worked because I was trying to be careful not to hurt him. Then I put some new wrap back over the old wrap and wrapped it higher up then the old wrap...

I am really worried though. Not sure if the old wrap is even covering the stitches. I am assuming it should be okay just for like.... 6 more hours until the vet opens.... since this wrap only sticks to itself it should NOT stick to the wound at the very least but should keep it covered so litter and stuff doesnt get stuck in it.

If I catch him chewing on it again, I will put the cone on his head.... but... I tried that and he just fought and tried to get it off and cried... I am going to try to stay awake with him all night to make sure it stays covered and will call the vet as soon as they open and I am really hoping they will see him in the morning.

Bless your heart! You are a good mommy to stay up all night with Jupiter. Best of luck with the bandage situation.

I hope Jupiter's vet can fit him in this morning. Sorry he's chewing on the wrap, but you're doing a good job keeping an eye on him and making sure he's doing good.

Talk to him and tell him he will have to wear the cone as long as he continues to chew on the wrap.

Good luck to you in getting a first thing appointment with the closer vet and I hope they show you how to wrap it yourself.

Glad you have an apt. Maybe they could put a mild splint under the wrap, so even if he gets part of it off, there is a shield to block chewing.

Oh, Jupiter... ohmygod_smile Can you put a sock on him and tape it past his ankle? At least the area will be more covered that way. Cut-up pantyhose works well for this.
