I am not sure what to do here and would love some advice. His BG the night before was 53. He was eating well food well since he got here. One 24 hour period he had 12oz. That tapered off to a more reasonable 8-9ox. Now he won't touch it. He barely ate anything yesterday. Even with parmesan cheeze on top. He does not like freeze dried chicken or liver. He ate a temptations treat, and five small wellness kibbles. I think he's holding out for kibble.

He is a SOLID cat. Not fat at all and I just weighed him in at 16.17+ pounds.

So what would your best advice be for Hefner and I?

I can try meat babyfood.
Tuna - he didn't seem to be motivated by this the other day.
Does not like grilled chicken - tried to give him tiny pieces of plain grilled chicken yesterday and it was a no go.

Tried locking him in his bedroom that he was settled in and he didn't eat a thing in three hours. He seems alert and playing. With three cats I cannot tell for the life of me now who's using the litterboxes. It will take time.

Great tip Sienne. I will try that. He's walking around meowing like he wants something and I know its kibble. I will try kibble dust. I think he found the baggies of Kibble I keep on the kitchen island and knows its here. Henry is kibble only right now.

Hi Karrie.
Does Hefner seem hungry? You think he's just being picky since he realizes he living the good life now?
Maybe he ate a lot at first because he wasn't sure when/where his next meal was going to be - now he knows he's got you wrapped around his little paw?

Can you tell if he has a cold.. upper respiratory thing...? Often kitties that can't smell won't eat. When the young feral kitty I take care of stopped eating for two days, I knew something was wrong. She usually ate like a horse. It turns out she had a stopped up nose and when we got that taken care of her appetite returned. She also prefers kibble... by 10 to 1. But I don't give it to her and eventually she gets hungry enough that the wet food is devoured. I think she nabs kibble from the neighbors.. maybe??

I hope Hefner decides that wet food is good food and he will stop making you worry. (((hugs)))

I loved the meowing video yesterday. It did sound like he was saying... "helloooo, is anyone there? I know you're out there ... talk to me... hellooooo... oh, look a toy [play]... what was I doing?... oh, right... MEOW!!" I laughed and laughed. So cute!

Try a different wet food...? Perhaps it's the one that he's not interested in, and I know that there are many different ones out there. Right now, it's a trial and error with Hefner, and seeing what he'll eat and not eat. Just remember... Every cat is different = ECID.

I wish you much luck with the fuds. I hope that Hefner will like something very soon for you. Hang in there. :)

You might give that some consideration ;-) Justice is notorious for his "hunger strikes". They usually pass quickly.
If all seems OK otherwise, he might just be "trying it on"... understand your concern though, him being a new arrival.

Hi Karrie, I was wondering if you've tried Fancy Feast, some of the lower carb ones. I can't get Maggie to eat Wellness chicken. She was eating it for a while, and she had the best numbers. Then all of a sudden, she will not eat it! I tried Merrick before grain chicken, and it was a no go! Right now she's eating FF Chicken Feast, not the best for her numbers, but not the worst either? I dunno; it is so frustrating with the picky eaters!

Karrie, sorry to hear Hefner is turning his nose up at everything. I like Sienne's idea about putting the kibble dust on the top. If that doesn't get him going, then maybe he might have some type of congestion. After being in the shelter, he may have picked up something. Or he could be acting finicky and holding out for the "crack". Sorry I am not much help.

I hear you on the litterbox issue. Even with just 2 cats, it is difficult to know who is doing what and if you see something that is a problem, figuring out who has the problem!

Hi, he ate - not with the kibble dust, but with crushed up temptations on top. So I'll keep trying to be creative. Yes tried fancy feast, wellness, blue menu wild something, etc. Lots of wasted food over two days.

Had a great play session with the three of them all round in the same general area with da-bird. They all had tunnel vision on da-bird and not each other. No hissing or unhappiness> Everyone but Victoria waited for da-bird to come their way.
