No throwing up over night so that is a good sign in my book. 367 isn't a bad start for Lightning either. I have to leave for work in a few hours so I gave him 1/2 can MD and 1/2 can FF - about 4.25 oz total. I'm going to decrease his insulin to 1.75u and hope that he's ok until I get home. It's my birthday so I'm really hoping he gives me a nice present with a good number!
You might want to think about spreading out Lightning's food a bit rather than giving him all of his food for the cycle at pre-shot time -- unless he grazes. (It didn't sound like he grazes from yesterday.) If you're typically gone during the day, a timed feeder may be a thought, as well. More frequent, smaller meals are easier on the pancreas vs. all the food all at once.
You asked about gluten and feeding a civvie. I feed both of my cats the same food. I have a growing kitten and he gets the same low carb food as Gabby. I was going crazy trying to keep Gabby out of Gizmo's food until someone pointed out they could eat the same food. If you look at Dr. Lisa's site on feline nutrition, it will go into detail about nutrition and food. Fundamentally, cats are obligate carnivores. They need muscle meat and little else. As far as the ulcers in Thunder, I'd try eliminating the gluten and see what happens. Gluten is a protein source but it's probably not a complete protein. Many cats also are allergic to beef, so that may be something to consider, as well.
Yes, VERY glad to be in the yellow after the horrible day yesterday!! Thanks for b-day present Lightning!! Now too bad Thunder didn't listen and he woke me up at 230AM throwing up a hairball and then decided to not want to go back to sleep! He was scratching at doors and meowing forever...I finally had to just put him in the "cats room" and close the door.
But anyways, Lightning has been doing great all day....doing a mix of M/D and LC FF and he seems ok with it. Also reduced the Lantus to 1.75u. I'm hoping that with the incorporation of more LC food, his numbers will still go down. Crossing fingers!!
Time for some birthday dinner and then I'll be back to check him in about +3.
